Freeburg Recreation Park

Freeburg Recreation Park Freeburg Recreation Park You can bring your family to the park for a great day of fun and relaxation. An exercise-walking path circles the park.

There are 4 pavilions available to rent for family reunions, weddings, BBQs, picnics, and more. There is plenty of space to fly a kite; your children can play on the new playground, and play ball on small ball diamonds. All summer long, there are many ballgames played at the 7 diamonds; come on out and cheer your favorite team. Tennis courts, basketball courts, and the skate park help round out the many things to do.

Every Light in the Park is on!

The new LED ball field lights are officially up and running at Freeburg Recreation Park and they look great. A huge thanks to all the people that made this happen!

This project didn’t happen by accident. It happened because our park is active, supported, and used at a high level, and a big part of that is during the baseball season for SISBL

Every summer, SISBL brings thousands of people into our park. That traffic, that energy, and that investment are exactly what allow us to continue improving and maintaining this space for the entire community.

Because of SISBL, we’ve been able to:
Complete major projects like field lighting
Keep our park maintained at a high level
Improve safety with better visibility and security
Plan for future upgrades like courts and facilities

We’re proud of that partnership, and we’re proud of the direction this park is heading. Our goal has always been to build something that serves the whole community, and that doesn’t happen without strong, consistent support. The future is Bright!!

If you haven’t been out to the park lately, come see the lights, catch a game, and see firsthand what’s being built here.

Walking Path Update – the walking path project is complete.
We graded the problem areas, added new gravel/lime , and compacted the entire path to make it smoother and more durable. It was a process, but it’s in much better shape now. If you haven’t checked it out yet, take a walk and see the difference. Part of this project included filling the entire SISBL ballpark inside area along with all four fields warning tracks . The SISBL season starts tomorrow , Play Ball!!

Please be advised for additional parking for SISBL games , you may park in the old tractor/truck pull area and we have created an entry/exit so ppl can get in and out to that area.

We also removed the dirt hill in the old tractor/pull area and are excited for our plans for that area.

As always, we appreciate the feedback . it helps us keep improving the park.

Freeburg Park Restroom Update – 2026 Season

The Freeburg Park District would like to provide an update regarding restroom access at Freeburg Park for the upcoming season.

Due to continued vandalism in recent years, the Park Board has implemented a controlled restroom schedule to help protect public facilities and manage repair costs.

Beginning March 1, 2026, the park restrooms will be open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Restrooms will also be open for all pavilion rentals and scheduled park events, regardless of day or time.

This approach allows the Park District to restore restroom access while taking responsible steps to reduce damage and ensure facilities remain safe and usable for the community.

We are also excited to share that the Park Board is in the early planning stages of a future restroom reconstruction project, with the goal of building more durable, modern facilities. If planning and funding align, construction is targeted for mid-2027.

We appreciate the community’s understanding and continued support as we work toward both short-term solutions and long-term improvements.

Thank you,
Dave Van Zummeren
President, Freeburg Park District

Freeburg Park Restroom Facilities Closed Until March 2026

The Freeburg Park District announces that, effective immediately, the public restrooms located within Freeburg Park will be closed for the remainder of the 2025 season.
This decision comes after several years of increasing vandalism to the facilities. Despite the installation of security cameras and increased monitoring in cooperation with local law enforcement, incidents have persisted and worsened. In order to protect district resources and maintain safe, clean park grounds, the Board has determined that early closure is necessary.

The restrooms will remain closed until at least March 2026, at which time the Park District will reevaluate the long-term viability of reopening the facilities. No final determination has been made regarding their permanent future.

To ensure continued access, a portable restroom has been placed in the park and will remain available for public use during this closure.

The Freeburg Park District recognizes that restroom access is a valued amenity for park visitors and appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as we work to find the most responsible path forward.

Thanks,
Dave Van Zummeren
Freeburg Park District President
