When it rains - it pours! At least lately it has been around here. I love the rain - but can do without the lightening, high winds and hail! Come see this beauty at the Fredericksburg Art Guild. Only two more weekends for my show, “ A Secret Garden.” Open today - Sunday 10-4 pm.

A group of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope! I love this kaleidoscope of colours, movement, and fluttering butterflies. Butterflies only live a few weeks, but what an amazing display of joy they display in that short life.

Ever feel like you take one step forward and two steps backwards? Been feeling that way - but, I try to refocus on all the things to be grateful for regardless of what appears to be constant set backs.

When I started this series, “A Secret Garden” I didn’t know what it would fully become. I started with wanting to explore colours. This piece was freedom for me in the colour realm. I didn’t hold back and had no expectations. As I painted, I felt like each colour calling to the next to join the parade; a caravan of colour was born.

Rainy days are spent indoors. But, after the rain everything seems greener and brighter. When it rains the garden grows, the flowers drink, all the plants take a minute to replenish themselves. When we step outside again, the colours are in full bloom. The birds, bees, and butterflies now replenish on the nectar of the flowers. What a sweet sensation to experience such sights.

Love, like a delicate plant needs nurturing and care. It will bloom when we are engaged as its care-taker. And, it will wither if neglected. Love is not a convenience, it is a choice.

The garden is full of change. Life is full of change. Change can be uncomfortable. Change can be beautiful. This piece for me encompasses it all - when we are in the wild of changing things. It’s exciting, it’s scary, it’s wonderful, it’s exhilarating, and it’s exhausting. But, the process is growth and - hopefully - the end result is beautiful. I think this piece shows the beauty that can be in the wild of change and I just love it!

Looking at beautiful landscapes, I wonder at the plant choices. Were they picked for diversity, colour, conservation, or simply for their beauty? I think about people as well - how do we pick our companions? Hopefully, with an eye to feelings of fellowship and friendship. Giving and taking through the good and bad times. And when you find that perfect companion, you grow together in beautiful ways.
