Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get the official page switched to here and half to start entirely from scratch. This is frustrating, but at the end of the day it’s going to be worth it!! I promise. If you want to keep up, The Unfiltered Historian is the new and main page.

Thank you all and I look forward to bringing you all more content.

July 4, 1863 saw both Gen. George Meade and Gen. Ulysses Grant, triumph with victories both at Gettysburg and Vicksburg. The two major battles were very symbolic in the sense of July 4th. The United States survived an extremely trying time.

The two generals would be marching through the burning conflagration that is the Wilderness a year later, adding even more symbolism, to that horrible war.

Jones wrote quite often to his wife Celia, and those correspondences have helped historians to better understand the life of a common soldier. The 19th Indiana belonged to the Iron Brigade, one of the most elite fighting units in the north during the Civil War. Much of what we know come from Wisconsin and Michigan regiments in the brigade, but there are a few surviving accounts of Indiana and their involvements, Jones's letters, are among those few....
