Some people collect décor. I collect little obsessions. That’s really what The Mailbox Gallery is. It’s a monthly gathering of whatever visual idea I’m currently in love with. Not generic art. Not mass-produced filler. Just one artist making work she cares about and sending it to people who enjoy being part of that process. I want this to feel like more than a subscription. I want it to feel like belonging to something small, meaningful and full of character.

The print is only part of it. This is probably my favorite thing about The Mailbox Gallery. I get to make every month feel like opening a tiny package from an artist friend. The signed print. The studio letter. The vellum. The little unexpected things I decide to tuck inside. Sometimes even a tiny piece of art.
My goal is 100 people opening one of these every month. That number feels a little crazy right now. Which is exactly why I’m telling you about it.

Okay. This made it official. I ordered a stamp. Which apparently means I’m very serious about this whole “get my artwork into 100 mailboxes every month” idea.
There is something ridiculously satisfying about stamping THE MAILBOX GALLERY onto every package myself. No warehouse. No fulfillment company.
Just me, my studio, a stack of envelopes…and a slightly ambitious goal of 100 members. Current mission: Road to 100. Come along. I have a feeling this is going to be fun.

I decided I want my artwork showing up in 100 mailboxes every month. So…that’s what I’m building.

This is The Mailbox Gallery. Every month I choose one of my paintings, turn it into a signed 5x7 print, write a letter from my studio and tuck in a few little extras before sending the whole thing through the mail. I’m building this one collector at a time…and I’m going to share the whole journey here.

CRAZY THAT... oil painters intentionally paint "fat over lean."

No, it has nothing to do with calories. "Fat" means adding more oil. "Lean" means less. Artists build paintings with lean layers first and richer, oilier layers on top so the painting remains flexible as it ages. It's a centuries-old secret that helps prevent cracking. Science and art have always worked together.
