I need your help!
🖼️ This piece needs a title ….

🖌️ This artwork was very much created with love 🩷, but in my delight of how the finished product turned out, I neglected to give it a proper name.

A little background . . .

What you see is more than just paper & paint; it's a celebration of the journey of a wonderful couple 🦋. I decided to incorporate circles, a symbol of wholeness & unity, into my design. I also used this opportunity to explore some ideas I really loved, that I had worked on in my sketchbook 📖 .

Any thoughts on a title? Drop your suggestions below ✍

Today, a peek behind the curtain ...

This image is my most recent “inspiration” shot to add to my collection.

I can’t resist photographing beauty in unexpected places, like this parking garage stairwell in Baltimore City. The design aspects of this are fabulous and this will most certainly inspire some of my artwork in the future.

Accidents happen . . .
. . as it turns out, this piece came about completely by accident. I never like to waste materials, so I was playing around with some color combinations using some leftover paint from another piece I was working on. 🎨🖌️

It didn’t take long before I really fell in love with where it was going. After a couple more passes to get the balance just right, I ended up with what you see here!

And this ended up being the first piece ready for the “Le Salon” show TAG/The Artists Gallery.

Stop by TAG to take a closer look! Available for purchase in the gallery until September 1st. ✴

Re-visiting my Color Theory course every time I pick up a brush. In case you didn’t know . . .
. . color theory is the art and science of using color. It explains how we perceive color (both physically & psychologically) and how colors mix, match, and contrast with one another.

At its simplest, color theory is something we deal with daily but may not be aware of. You might have noticed some color schemes are more appealing to you than others 💜. The temperature, saturation or hue of the colors in your environment can evoke different emotional responses.

When creating art, I choose colors based on the mood & emotion I aim to convey. For me, it’s about crafting an experience, a feeling that extends beyond the canvas and into your life.

What’s the predominant color of your favorite place to relax? ↴

🖼️ More to this painting than what you see on the surface . . .

This painting has up to 8 surface layers in places, consisting of not only paint, but collage papers, oil sticks, pencils and inks.

This layering technique, as the name suggests, involves building up a surface by applying multiple layers of medium. This allows me to achieve textures, transparencies and dimensions that a single layer of paint simply cannot provide.

Passionate about my art . . .
and the planet 🌎

As a sustainable artist I don’t believe that art can only have worth if it’s gold encrusted, financially prohibitive, or without a thought about waste. Amazing art can be created without having a negative impact on our planet.

When shopping and tempted by a beautiful hue of paint or a new shiny tool🖌️, I pause to ask myself these simple questions…

1] Do I really need what I am about to buy and does it add value to my creative process? If it’s not “ABSOLUTELY!”, then it is costing me and the planet more than it is worth..

2] What can I reuse or repurpose? Ephemera, like old books, documents and newspaper, is part of my collage pile. Leftover paint never goes down the drain; it's used on paper scraps for additional collage options. I re-purpose cardboard and plastics from packaging to make new stencils. I reuse boxes for shipping. I often use discarded canvases as a base for my art. I have scraps of fabric and string waiting for their opportunity to enhance my work.

I’ve trained myself to have an open mind to items that have the potential to be repurposed. Nothing usable gets thrown away. 🦸🏻‍♀️

A great side benefit to this practice (besides making me feel great about my process) is that it makes me a more creative, thoughtful artist. That’s a WIN-WIN!

🌍 Is there a sustainable practice in your routine that excites you? I’d love to know! ⬇

A glimpse at my process,
then the finished product! 🖼️

The start of most of my paintings are without any specific idea of the end result. Instead I try to view each canvas with fresh eyes every time I return to it. This way allows me to determine my mark making based on the way the piece makes me feel after I having not seen it for a period of time.

I find that this kind of thinking enables me to create with more intuition, and surprisingly, yielding better results. The fact that I’m freely allowing my work to evolve without the constraints of a detailed plan, often is more efficient and more impactful than a more traditional path.

[Took a break from cleaning up my studio space to tackle an empty page in my sketchbook. . . it made me think of this quote. 💕]

Great turnout at the opening of the Le Salon show at The Artist’s Gallery . . .

🖼️ Lots of beautiful pieces in the gallery (including mine!). Besides all the great people I spoke with this weekend, a big “thank you” to all my family and friends who came out to support me! 💗

There’s still time to view the show before it leaves on Sept. 1st! 🗓

So honored to see my art on TAG’s announcement
for the 🖼️ Le Salon exhibit ! . . .

. . . and really excited for this weekend’s opening! I’m not only stoked to see my own work in this exhibition, but I can’t wait to see the vision of so many other artists! Love their gallery space, right in the heart of downtown Frederick.

✧₊⁺ Make some time in August to check them out along with beautiful historic Frederick!
