New to the Archive! An original souvenir album from the first production production of Ben-Hur that the later films were based on. This particular album also included the playbill from the Colonial Theatre, Feb 11, 1901. William S. Hart, who would later be a silent film star, played Messala.

Also new to the archive today! Over 300 playbills dating from about 1887 to 1898, all from San Francisco productions and primarily organized by venue. It is interesting to think that EVERY theater in San Francisco was destroyed in April of 1906. But this album, which was clearly owned by a resident of the city (probably from Pacific Heights, the affluent district that survived the fires) managed to survive.
