Some pieces mean more than pretty. 💛
My daughter recently started a new job working with children in a group home — kids who have experienced deep trauma and hard beginnings. As she steps into this season, I wanted to create something meaningful she could carry with her.
The butterfly emerging from the cocoon represents more than one story. It reflects the growth she is experiencing too… learning, stretching, becoming. But it also symbolizes the children she will love and support along the way.
One of the most beautiful and hardest truths about healing is this:
Transformation is rarely instant.
A butterfly has to struggle out of the cocoon on its own. That struggle is actually part of strengthening the wings for flight. And maybe that’s one of the hardest parts of loving people well — watching the struggle and desperately wanting to step in and do more. Wanting to remove the pain. Wanting to make the process easier.
But sometimes, if we interfere too much, we unintentionally weaken the very strength that is being built in the process.
We can support, protect, encourage, and love… but some parts of healing can only happen through the struggle itself.
The three small butterflies in the background represent the greatest tools she carries into this work:
Faith. Hope. Love.
And maybe most importantly… a reminder that she was never meant to carry all of this on her own. In the hard moments — because there will be hard moments — this piece is meant to remind her to place those children, their stories, and even her own weary heart back into the hands of the One who provides all healing.
Sometimes faith looks like simply showing up, loving well, and trusting God with the becoming. 🦋
