I’m Christine, the artist behind Van Cleave Aesthetics, and this is how I ended up in a career I never expected to love.

When I lost my job during COVID, I had four children at home and a skill I’d only intended to use as a side hustle. I brought everything I knew from a lifetime of art and design into figuring out what came next.

Today, I have a private studio in Franklin, Tennessee, where I offer fine-line tattoos, permanent makeup, restorative tattooing, and ear piercing.

I especially love welcoming women who have been thinking about something for years but haven’t quite felt comfortable taking the next step. You can bring your questions, your nerves, and an idea that isn’t fully formed yet. We can start there.

This stack is all about quiet luxury. Clean, intentional, and just enough sparkle.

A sleek pavé hoop anchors the lobe, paired with a tiny bezel set stone and a minimalist bar for a little architectural contrast. A delicate pavé cartilage hoop finishes the ear and pulls the entire composition together.

The mix of soft sparkle + clean geometry keeps it feminine without feeling overly sweet. Nothing competes. Everything belongs.

This is what I mean by a curated ear. Not simply adding piercings, but considering placement, proportion, negative space, and how each piece relates to the next.

Yesterday’s Dolly event was SO popular that we couldn’t get everyone in, and I’ve already heard from people who missed it.

So I’m thinking about adding a DOLLY ENCORE WEEKEND at the studio:

The belief that tattoos are “not for women like us” was never a fact. It was a rule we were taught to obey.

We were expected to be polished, proper, conservative, and untouched. It was as if our bodies belonged to everyone else’s expectations before they belonged to us.

But women are reclaiming their bodies and telling their stories through tattoos.

We’re honoring our children, our loved ones, motherhood, heritage, faith, healing, independence, survival, and the women we were before everyone else needed us.

A tattoo doesn’t mean, “I don’t care what anyone thinks.”

Sometimes it means:

“I care enough about myself to let my outside reflect my inside.”

You can be 40, 50, or 60. A mother, grandmother, professional, business owner, caregiver, or the woman who has spent a lifetime putting everyone else first.

You are still allowed to choose yourself.

Your body gets to tell your story, too. And not just the parts that made other people comfortable, but the parts that made you strong, whole, and free.

Maybe tattoos were never “not for women like us.”

Maybe we were simply taught to stay hidden.

Maybe it’s time to stop asking for permission.
