A slow day at the farm, good to have a break from so many great bookings lately.
Not part of the business but she’s a member of the family: this is Hope.
Hope was born April 13, 2023 To Sunny & Hoppy on the barrier island called Assateague Island off the coast of Chincoteague, Virginia.
There is a herd of approximately 250 wild horses that live freely on the island. They are managed by the Chincoteague volunteer fire department, called the Saltwater Cowboys. The last week of July they round up the herds and swim them across a channel and later move them to the fair grounds in an event called Pony Penning. The last Thursday of the month, select foals are auctioned and once weaned are released to new homes across the country.
At the 98th annual auction, we bid on and won #16. A nod to her mother (Sunny) as well as the culmination of a personal bucket list while amidst my own battles, her registered name is ‘Sunny’s Island Treasure of Hope’…..and ‘Hope’ could not be more fitting of what this beautiful girl embodies. She has been a journey from the very moment we loaded her into the trailer for the trek home. She is affectionate and curious, stubborn and athletic, brave and beautiful. We’ve trained her from the beginning: halter, leading, grooming, picking up her feet, and desensitized her with crazy tarps and umbrellas and pool noodle obstacles. Now it’s time to begin training her to be ridden. Can’t wait to experience this new leg of adventure with her. 💕 🙏🏼 🐎
