This is a gourd I created as a Christmas gift from a talented bird photographer to her supportive bird loving husband. They gave me a list of favorites to choose from but I couldn’t seem to exclude any of them .😆 There are times when a design comes together in a way that is very interesting and exciting for me. This is one of those times and the general multi-image designs with connecting swirls will be explored some more.

I went to Legends Taxidermy today to paint an elephant image on an elephant ear. The client waited to have the elephant painted until he actually hunted that animal. Another very talented artist had done the work and put the tree in, but she’s retired now so when the elephant needs to be added, it came to me. There needs to be some minor repair work to the leather laces that attach the ear to the frame, and the background it’s against is a workshop wall, so not real clean.

I finally finished up 24 egg gourds going to Bier Art Gallery in Charlevoix for their holiday ornament sale. The wren is a new favorite of mine! I plan to try and have more ornaments at the Lowell Arts Holiday Show and Sale this year, as people really like them this time of year. PM me for a special request!

It sure feels good to get a couple of tasks completed. The electric fireplace is a Marketplace deal for our house addition to start soon. The cabinet has been a tool of my dad’s from my earliest memories. I repainted it and it’s now a tool in my art studio. One of my most memorable and meaningful pieces of furniture now.🥰

I really do love the blessing of painting on these boxes and cribbage boards made by Cal Longcore and Dave VanAntwerp. They are wonderful woodworkers! There isn’t a finish on them yet, or hinges, liner fabric, game piece holders, or engraving, but that will happen soon. If you’d like information on how to contact them, please pm me. They sell a various markets and shows, usually closer to Kalamazoo. I think these will sell quickly!

I just finished my part on 10 hand made boxes by Cal Longcore and Dave VanAntwerp. The small boxes are for flies and lures, the largest loon box is designed for eagle feathers - very unique. Cal made a custom one for a Native American customer for this purpose, and he felt the need to make another for fun. They both sell at farmers markets around Kalamazoo, but please let me know if you’re interested in contacting them directly. These make great gifts. Cal and Dave will put a wood finish on them, hinges, and inner liners.
