Thank you so much for the outpouring of support for our new spot in Redcrest đź’ś
I know a lot of folks are scratching their heads, wondering why the heck we would choose Redcrest. Well, let me tell you why…
Most of you know by now that my major inspiration behind Fat Anne’s came from being in my grandmother’s kitchen. My Dad’s mother, affectionately known by everyone as Mawsie, or Ma. Mawsie’s tiny little kitchen that I loved so much was located in Redcrest. This little town, barely even a dot on a map, is where all of my best memories are, both from my childhood and as an adult. Summer days picking berries, making pies, riding bikes along the Avenue, playing tag or hide and seek in the redwoods, and of course, always a big family dinner with way too many people crammed in a ridiculously small house.
But, that’s not the only part of the story of Redcrest. After the 1964 flood, my Mom’s family had to relocate from their home is South Fork, and they landed in…Redcrest! Not only did they lose their home, but my grandmother, Lois, also lost work as a postmaster when the South Fork Post Office was destroyed. My grandfather saw to it to have a new Post Office built for her in Redcrest, where she was the postmaster, until she passed in 1977. Because she passed way too soon, I unfortunately never had the opportunity to meet her, but my mom has always made sure we still knew her, as best as we could. I have heard her many stories throughout my life, she was a strong woman with an amazing green thumb and a fierce love for her family, often showing her love through baking. My mom tells me often how much I remind her of her mom.
I could not be happier to move a piece of my heart, Fat Anne’s, to the place that will forever be “home”.
