Forged Together is made up of Eric and Rebekah Carnes. The name is the point. They named the shop after the commitment they made to each other and to the knives they build together. They work out of a backyard shop in Georgia and take every piece from start to finish themselves. The style they keep coming back to is rugged, compact EDC and outdoor fixed blades with handle combinations that do not repeat.

GripX™ is what they reach for most. They have tried almost every handle material they can think of. This one stayed. Strong grip, durable, easy to shape, and a look they actually want on the knife. Eric’s line on it is simple: he cannot stop buying the stuff.

They contour the scales so they sit natural in the hand, then stop at 120 grit. They want that rocky texture left in the material. A spray of WD-40 to clean it up and bring a little shine, then a coat of Formula C. They are not chasing a polish that would sand the grip away.

Purpose is the word they use for every knife. Each one gets a name and a story that goes with it.

AI isn’t for everything, or everyone, but I will say this… it helps me get ideas out of my head, into code, and integrated into our daily routine.

One thing I have struggled with since my earliest memories is tracking and organization. I am obsessed with both, and I’m absolutely the worst with following through. I have great ideas on how to organize, I can rarely follow that through to completion.

Fast forward to now, and it turns into a huge obstacle I need to overcome in business, in order to improve the product and services we offer.

So I started looking into ERPs, I’ve tried a few, they’re way too generalized and complicated. Then comes Claude Code. I can spitball my ideas into a thread and Code will get me close to the idea. I’ve spent countless hours working on this, making it specific to my needs, and it’s finally beyond the concept phase into the testing phase!

The most important factor for this program is to keep my casting queue organized in a way that prioritizes the order of casting based on actual need. If stock is low, it moves up the list.

Beyond that, I want to implement small things now that will make industrial certification much easier, in the event that we decide to move that direction - which I’m certain we will when the time is right.

Maker of the Week is Kenneth Mulder of HF Blade Co., working out of Southwest Michigan.

Kenneth was an EDC fan long before he was making EDCs. It shows up in the knives. Slim. Light. Compact. Comfortable. Built to vanish in a pocket until you actually need them.

This week’s piece is his MayFly with an orange GripX™ combo scale. The MayFly sits in the same family as his Skeeto XL: small, carry-first tools with handmade character in every one.

He likes GripX because it cuts hours off finishing. Instead of grinding through long hand-sanding sessions, he can get a look he trusts and move on. He typically takes it to 400 grit, or gives it a light sandblast when he wants a little more texture.
