We had a great class yesterday making bug habitats. Students learned about insects and where they live (yay science!) and the idea of perspective, using oil pastels and clay to create these mixed medium masterpieces (yay art!). We haven't met a kid yet who doesn't love sculpting with clay and playdough!

If this seems like the right fit for your kiddo, we're at Excel Academy Southlake every Tuesday this summer. We also have Saturday morning classes all summer in Roanoke and will have afterschool programs in NISD and with Mid-Cities Montessori this fall!

Art camp is off to a strong start this week! Students channeled Matisse's "The Sheaf" and "Beasts of the Sea" via paper collage! They learned about marbling and printing techniques using shaving cream! They sculpted pinch pots and explored metallic paints! Art with us is always an adventure!

Happy National Kiss Day! While it's not a regular topic in our art lessons, we do draw a lot of inspiration from Gustav Klimt. One of his most famous works is called "The Kiss."

We love Gustav Klimt for his use of patterns, interpretation of florals, studying perspective, and for his use of metallic paint - we love all things shiny and sparkly! He got it from his father, who was a gold engraver. Klimt helped define the Art Nouveau movement in Europe in the late 1800s.

We'd love to teach your kiddos about Klimt and other famous artists! Come check out our classes and camps!

Happy International Picnic Day! We love spending time outdoors and touching grass, and there are so many fabulous things to see to inspire our art.

We've always been inspired by Georges Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte." If you zoom in, you can see the painting is made by thousands of little dots of unmixed paint in complimentary colors, a style called pointillism. It's actually your eyes that mixes the colors to create the picture.

We like it because it looks like a nice place to hang out for a picnic.

Another amazing class at Excel Academy in Southlake! We used chalk pastels on black paper to create bright fireworks. A few fingertip smudges later and the night sky was exploding with colorful light.

Mix, Mold, Matisse was so much fun!!! Our artists did an incredible job channeling their inner Yayoi Kusama and Edgar Degas. I know they learned a lot about art and they got to sculpt in almost every project this week.

There was a snake in our boot! Just the snakes and boots we made as we explored pattern in our Wild West Camp at the Colleyville Rec! Our pre-k group always shows up ready to make some remarkable art and ready for adventure. They learned about Native American folklore in making totem poles and decorating tepees. They made 3D cowboys that wiggled while they rode their horse, and they made the prettiest sunsets!

We had so much fun. We're offering our Wild West Art Camp one more time this summer, for our elementary school students, at the Roanoke Rec Center 22-26 June - you don't want to miss this rootin' tootin' good time!
