SceneShop

SceneShop SceneShop is an evolving collective dedicated to the strength and entertainment value of new works.

An evening with SceneShop promises a lot of variety and a healthy dose of the unexpected. Our shows feature anywhere from 4 to 8 new scenes or monologues, usually centered around a common broad theme. Past shows have featured works written around the idea of "Home," sibling relationships or simply "Lost & Found." At Christmas-time, adults who've overdosed on the sugary fare common to the season fi

nd an irreverent alternative in our annual "A Fifth of Christmas." SceneShop is likely to turn up anywhere, but our home base for performing is the wonderful Arts Fifth Avenue, a funky education-and-performance gem located in Fort Worth's historic Fairmount district.

Alpine, Texas is the setting of "What We Did," the script that comprises Act II of SceneShop's "Don't Dream It's Over," our shows coming in August. All of the scripts featured in this edition are about endings and beginnings and transitions, because this is the final edition of SceneShop. It's been great, it's been fun, it's been lots of hard work, and, after 30 years, it's been long enough.

"Don't Dream It's Over" plays August 1, 7, and 8 at Arts Fifth Avenue . Please include us in your summer plans.

Alpine, in far southwest Texas, is regarded as sort of an entrance to Big Bend National Park. Originally selected as a railroad stop, the town was founded in 1882, as Osborne, TX. Then, briefly, it was Murphysville. It was renamed again in 1888, and it's been Alpine ever since.

Alpine is the setting of "What We Did," the script that comprises the second act of "Don't Dream It's Over," our August edition. All scripts in the show will focus on endings, beginnings, and transitions, because this edition of SceneShop is our last. It's been great, it's been fun, it's been a lot of work, and 30 years is long enough. All things end; the privilege is being able to declare and orchestrate that conclusion.

"Don't Dream It's Over" will play August 1, 7 and 8 at Arts Fifth Avenue. We hope you'll join us.

Thanks to everyone who made this year's final Fifth of Christmas a success, and thanks to all those actors, writers, musicians, audience members, Arts Fifth Avenue volunteers, and everyone else who contributed to these annual snarky shows over the years. It was our pleasure.

Now, remember: SceneShop will end its 30 years next August, with the show Don't Dream It's Over. Plan on joining us for this memorable occasion.

THREE WEEKS AWAY!
We all know that December is busy, but please make plans to join us at Arts Fifth Avenue on Saturday, December 6 for "One More for the Road," the final edition of "A Fifth of Christmas," our snarky, fruitcake-free holiday show for grownups. Tickets are $12, and you can make reservations at www.artsfifthavenue.org, or by calling 817 923-9500. The address is 1628 Fifth Ave. at Allen, in the city's historic Fairmount district.

The musicians of WillieNatra will be on hand to provide eclectic tunes throughout the evening ; the band won new fans with their successful Nilsson/Newman concert in September.

The acting ensemble for the show includes Rob Bosquez, Steven Cashion, Debbie Dacus, Tyler Dorney, Bob Francis, Bianca Folgar, Peggy Bott Kirby, Corban Littrell, Mark Makin, Steve McGaw, Straton Rushing and Kristi Ramos Toler.

We've envisioned this show as sort of a Greatest Hits package, featuring popular works from past editions, but there are also two new scripts in the mix.

And yes, this is the final "Fifth." In August of next year, after 30 years, SceneShop will come to a close with our final collection of new short works titled "Don't Dream It's Over."
