I’m so excited! I’ve (finally!) had some little cards printed up of my current animal paintings! They’re 5”x 5” & fit easily into standard photo frames, or can be mailed in standard square envelopes (I’ll include the envelopes if you’d like).

I’m making them available as a pack of 6 — fox, squirrel, armadillo, raccoon, opossum, and skunk) for $35.

If you’d like a pack, shoot me a message and I would be delighted to send one your way!

This image of Zelma in a NYC street, on her own during a pandemic, stops me in my tracks every time I see it. I mentally compare this girl to me at her age and feel astounded by her courage, focus, and determination.

[Gosh. I was so feral, so tortured by self-hatred for most of my young life, it took all of my energy and attention to try and hide all the ways I believed I was hopelessly flawed and inadequate. Any action or plan other than ‘survive until tomorrow’ wasn’t available to my brain.]

Sitting here now, dabbing color here and there, I think about her. And I think about me, and how weird and wobbly time can be. (The photo is from February of 2022, but it’s new every time I look at it.) This may be as far as I take this one. I’ve yet to tackle the chains, but maybe it doesn’t matter. We’ll see. ❤️

I keep missing the doe and her two fawns cross through the yard. They usually come through in the late evening after I’ve already left. Today, I missed them while I tidied my painting area getting ready to call it today. Couldn’t believe my bad luck! At least I’ve had this one to keep me company! 12x24 acrylic on cradled wood panel.

The number of little black and white pelts along the highway outnumbered all the others. Such a bummer. But they, like all the others, are worth honoring and loving. We’re all here sharing the same planet. I hesitate to say more because I’ll spiral into my crone-in-the-woods persona and I’m really here to share a cute skunk painting. This is a small one. 8x8 acrylic on cradled wood panel.

Not sure it’s done-done, but close enough for now. The raccoon. I see a lot of these guys on the road. Only surpassed by the ‘possum. This one is another 16x16 acrylic on cradled wood. Does it feel finished? I think I’M finished with it anyway.

I’ve been trying to paint more loosely… because just creating a duplicate of my reference feels somehow lacking. Boring? (But a painting is also the one thing in my world I CAN control. Ish.) I’m thinking about what an intersection of control and feeling is going to look like for me. That’s where I long to land.

May they all find a safe, comfortable tree to relax in.
