Long before Tennessee River Music, became a cattle operation, Randy Owen was riding with his father to buy and sell cattle along the Tennessee River.

Those trips planted the dream of someday building a seedstock operation of their own.

Years later, when Alabama’s “Tennessee River” became the group’s first No. 1 hit, the name felt only fitting for the ranch they had always imagined.

Since 1981, that dream has grown into a family operation raising Hereford and Angus cattle on the same Alabama ground where Randy grew up. Today, the next generations are working alongside them, carrying the ranch and the cattle program forward.

Since 1909, cattle have grazed the Little River bottom near Cameron, Texas under the care of the McClaren family.

Five generations later, 44 Farms still calls that same country home. A lot has changed in more than a century genetics, technology, markets and the way beef moves from pasture to plate, but the belief behind the ranch hasn’t: take care of the land, take care of people and keep building something worth handing down.

More than 130 years ago, a Sunday lunch changed the course of the DeSalvo family.

After church, Phillip DeSalvo’s great-great-grandfather sat down with his family and told them he had a plan: leave Italy, cross an ocean and start a new life. That leap of faith laid the groundwork for what would eventually become Big D Ranch.

Today, the family still gathers around the table and they’re still raising cattle on the same ground their ancestors settled near Center Ridge.
