🤔Have you ever set up a tank using materials and fish from a local source of water? 🤔

I just set this up so the water isn’t crystal clear yet but I was too excited to wait lol 😆 This is one of the more unique and fun set ups that I have tried in a while. All the sand, creek gravel, creek rock, and the schooling eastern blacknose dace were sourced from the same creek in south eastern KY on my parents property. (Sword plant, corydoras, and snail were added to help the appearance and keep it clean) Although these fish are somewhat ordinary looking, they do have wonderful characteristics. They can reach sizes of 3.5” long, their colors closely resemble that of a flying fox algae eating fish, but their greatest quality is their schooling activity. This was a fun one and it makes me want to plan a trip to travel somewhere and collect some more unique varieties of native fish such as the rainbow shiners of the south.

I had a really fun time collecting creek rock and sand with my girls today in south east KY❤️ We even had good luck using a kids play net to catch some minnows 😆 — in Oneida.
