Project Ballet

Project Ballet Project Ballet provides superior ballet training for our region’s youth. We provide superior ballet training for our region’s youth ages 3-18.

Project Ballet (formerly the New American Youth Ballet) was founded in 2004 and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. As a compliment to our outstanding ballet training, we also offer our upper level students an on-site college preparatory school, The Academic Conservatory at Project Ballet. The Conservatory serves grades 5-12, scheduling an accelerated academic curriculum around the unique needs of our dancers.

Earlier this month, it was Take A Girl to Work Day. 🩰

The program was created in 1993 to give girls opportunities to explore careers and workplaces, while helping build confidence and expand ideas about future possibilities.

We just so happened to have 3 daughters of our team sharing the stage on that day! Pictured here is Mrs. McLeish, Mrs. Niebel, and Mrs. Frank, along with their daughters.

Project Ballet is proud to be led by an incredible team of female leaders, and honored to be tasked with inspiring this rising generation of women, and our leadership team are proud members of the Women’s Fund of Greater Fort Wayne.

Last month, our Executive Director, Mrs. Niebel, attended the Showcase of the Arts for the Indiana Chapter of the NSAL (National Society of Arts and Letters). Project Ballet alumni Hannah R. was the top winner, and she performed beautifully!

Pictured here is Mrs. Niebel with Ruth Albright, the Chapter President. Mrs. McLeish and Mrs. Niebel are both members of the NSAL, and enjoy being involved in the arts community in Indiana.

Why do dancers say “merde” to each other before a show? You may be wondering since “merde” has another, less than kind, meaning in French!

The custom in the ballet industry is to wish each other “merde” before a show, bestowing good luck and well wishes for a successful performance. This is similar to how actors tell each other to “break a leg”, since it is bad luck to actually say the words “good luck”!

Now the next time you hear young dancers or teachers wishing each other “merde” or giving each other a “merde gift” before a show - you will know they meaning it lovingly and with good wishes!

During the final week of school, our lower school literature students celebrated a beloved tradition - an outing to Starbucks! ☕️📚

For Mrs. Smith-Meyer’s class, this special trip is more than just a treat - students proudly recited their memorized passages from William Shakespeare!

What a fun way to celebrate the end of the year! ✨

One more big 🎉 congratulations 🎉 to the 2026 graduates of the Academic Conservatory!
