AFTERNOON STORMS: From Okaloosa Public Safety Director Patrick Maddox:

“Afternoon pulse-style thunderstorms are firing right on queue. The atmosphere can only take so much heat before it needs to reset the gauge- this is how that happens.

These storms are capable of producing heavy downpours, gusty winds and frequent cloud to ground lightning. They can be just under severe limits without any additional warning, so remain weather-aware. Expect them daily through the weekend.

Not every community will have rain and storms, but those who do will know that they’ve had them for sure.

Reminder: severe limits are tornadic, 1”+ hail or winds greater than 58MPH- even “just below” those limits can produce effects like we saw yesterday.”
