Hey everyone,
I wanted to bring attention to the new Wawa being built on Midway and Selvitz Rd. Unfortunately, it seems that the contractors working on the site are not following permit standards. This is causing a lot of problems for the surrounding community.
First off, they are operating before and after the allowed times. This disturbs the peace for residents and violates the Florida State Statute 316.1945 and St Lucie County Ord. 91-43, which states that construction should only occur between 7am and sundown.
Often times, the crews often start work well before 7am. Many residents have witnessed them arriving around 5am and beginning work at 6 - 6:30am. This is a clear violation of the county's construction regulations, and the noise the cause disrupts peoples mornings.
But that's not all. The contractors have caused significant damage to private property. They ran a front loader into a private concrete mailbox, and their compression equipment has caused cracks in the foundations and ceilings of neighboring homes. It's not just hearsay either; eyewitnesses can validate these incidents.
When confronted about the damage, the crew working after 6 p.m. denied any knowledge of it. Also, after looking into the Wawa property, circling the building and requesting the permit placard location, no conspicuous permits were displayed on the windows as required by law. This has made it impossible to get the information necessary to hold the general contractor responsible.
Wawa, Tommy and Sons Paving Contractors, and the Paving Lady are involved in this situation. The Paving Lady was captured on video working after hours, further supporting our claims.
It's disheartening that the county code enforcement does not care about the average citizens. Hiding behind "office hours" as the excuse for why they don't catch these incidents. They are not enforcing their own regulations when it comes to permits. It's funny how they quickly go after homeowners but turn a blind eye to major construction projects.
Please help spread the word about this issue. We need to hold these contractors accountable and ensure they follow the proper regulations, and repair the damage they have caused to private homeowners. Everyone in the community deserves to live in peace and have their property protected.
