Before Ian - Fort Myers Beach Pier, 20x10in
A vibrant and bold view of the Fort Myers Beach Pier during sunset. Part of the β€œBefore Ian” series, in which I try to depict the lively scenes that we had before Hurricane Ian devastated Southwest Florida.
This piece is officially up on my website, alexisofthesea.com!

Before Ian - Fort Myers Beach Pier
20inx10in, acrylic on canvas

This photo is IMMEDIATELY after I finished it (about 45 minutes ago now) and I was just too excited! I'll be doing a better photoshoot once I varnish it properly!

It's been a while since I posted, and it's summertime, so I'm breaking out the mermaids again! On the left are the Yellowtail Damselfish mermaids, and the right the Yellowtail Reeffish mermaid. The small mermaid is loosely based off of bioluminescent sharks and was my first time moving my mermaid designs from sketchbook to canvas. These and more available on my website!

I painted a Junonia! I'll be putting it up on the website today at 6pm; keep an eye out if you're interested!

Scaphella junonia are rare and highly sought after shells on Florida beaches. They're so rare because this species lives between 80-375 ft below--that means only storms or upwelling currents can push this shell onto the beach! It also means that we don't know much about the life of this animal.

Visit https://www.gulfcoastjunonias.com/all-about-junonias or https://www.shellmuseum.org/junonia-research to learn more about this species!

Before Ian - Lighthouse Beach, 24x18in
A colorful and clear view of Lighthouse Beach on Sanibel Island, FL. In the "Before Ian" series, I try to capture what our iconic SW Florida scenes looked like before the storm.

I've finally added my Portfolio to the website! If you want to see some of my older art that isn't available (maybe if you wanted to request a commission or two πŸ˜‰), check out https://www.alexisofthesea.com/portfolio !

Here are all the pieces I have made in the past. These pieces each have their own rightful homes and are, hopefully, being enjoyed daily. This section includes not only paintings, but also drawings, sculptures, and even some cakes I have designed! If you are hoping to request a commission, this is a....

Yellowtail Damselfish are part of the Chromis and Damselfish family (Pomacentridae) and can be found from Florida to Brazil. As they age, they go through multiple color changes to better blend in with the different parts of their environments they find they are able to explore, and can temporarily change their color on a whim.

Acrylic paint on canvas, 10in x 20in.

Black and Blue Mermaid, 5x7in
In the Black and Blue series, I focused on ocean life--whether real or mythical--in the light of bioluminscence. Bioluminscence is when living things glow, often through chemical or physical means. This painting shows a mermaid in the deep sea, illuminated by a glowing object in her arms and her own bluish light.

Before Ian - Sanibel Lighthouse 2/10, 11x14in
This is the second time I've painted this scene after the effects of Hurricane Ian. I hope to create more scenes like this, reminding every Southwest Florida resident what we were and what we can be again.
