You know what’s more cringe than being cringe? Letting fear stop you from doing the thing you love.

One of the most common things I hear from new improvisers is, “I felt so awkward up there.”

The truth is that awkwardness, uncertainty, and even a little embarrassment are part of the process. Every performer you’ve ever admired has had moments they’d rather forget. What helped them grow wasn’t avoiding those moments, it was continuing through them.

The next time you feel cringe while performing, creating content, speaking in public, or trying something new, remember: you’re not failing. You’re learning.

What’s something you’ve done recently that felt a little cringe but helped you grow?

What happens when kids are given the space to play?

They become storytellers.
They become teammates.
They become confident.

Through improv, we’re not just making things up—we’re building real-life skills:
- Creating characters
- Playing with others
- Communicating ideas
- Creating together

And the best part? They don’t even realize how much they’re learning… because they’re having fun.

At This Is Improv, we believe every child deserves a place to be heard, supported, and celebrated.

💙 Come play with us.

What does leadership look like when every second counts?

In our latest episode of STEAM Unscripted, we sit down with Fire Captain Richard Alvarez to explore the reality of leadership, communication, and decision-making in high-pressure environments.

This episode goes beyond the fire service, it’s about how humans show up when it matters most.

Produced in collaboration with This Is Improv and NSU Mako Media, STEAM Unscripted brings together science, leadership, and creativity in a way that’s educational, human, and a little unscripted.

Today for The Improv Professor we’re referencing How to Write Funny by and Yes, Improv Comedy Sucks, And Everyone Should Try It by Nicolaia Rips (), to remind you that:

Do you want to know the most important part of improv?

It’s not about being funny… it’s about discovery.

So many people walk into their first class with a plan, trying to “get it right” or force the joke. But improv works best when you let go, stay present, and allow yourself to discover what’s happening in the moment.

- That’s where the magic is
- That’s where the connection is
- That’s where the comedy lives

Welcome to The Improv Professor, where we break down the tools of improv, comedy, and real-life communication.
