The past couple of weeks a special visitor has been coming outside my house. At first I was startled when he was just under the roof ledge of my front door, but he had a calm and powerful gaze that made me more curious than scared. I spend time just watching Koukos, and he will sometimes stop and stare and then go back to turning his head around or clean his talons. Owls are amazing creatures! And they are the symbol of wisdom where I am from.

Finished this first attempt at a self-portrait. It’s hard! And challenging and fun. And I need to learn how to keep my hand from smudging the drawing.
What makes this special for me is that I found my grandmother’s sketchbook from when she used to paint in the 70’s and sketched it there next to her old drawings.

Feeling energized as I move art into my new space.
Painting has given me a way to express myself in unique and creative ways
It has given me a voice that I didn’t know was inside me.
My favorite part of this journey so far is hearing how some of my paintings speak completely to some, and go unnoticed to others. And vice versa.
It fascinates me!
This motivates me to grow as an self-taught artist and continue exploring my own art process.
