Clearing out and shutting down, moving on from fishkeeping. Those who know me personally know I've said something similar to this in the past, but this time I mean it. I'm strongly considering getting out of the fish hobby for the most part. It's mainly because I want to refocus my priorities to living the best life I can, and fish keeping just takes too much of that time. So even though I've already begun downsizing over the last couple months, I'm now drastically cutting back the number and types of fish I have. Right now I'm starting with livebearers. I have some guppies, swordtails, wild/f1/f2 melanistic Florida mollies, red platies, and some liberty molly hybrids available to get things rolling. This Wednesday is the Gold Coast Aquarium Society Annual super auction. I'll be downsizing some of my fresh collection, and will be including Some of my Kohaku Koi Swordtails, Showa Koi Swordtails, Fancy guppies, Maingano Cichlids, Yellow Lab Cichlids, Red Lifalili Jewel Cichlids, Bettas, and 1 or 2 Fireman's Dream Flowerhorn.

Labidochromis sp. "Electric yellow Lab cichlid"

Is is a combo of fry from 2 or 3 different parents... What's interesting about breeding these fish is that you can many shades of yellow in a single spawn, depending on the quality of the parents. Better quality fish, selectively bred for yellow, will generally have offspring that are more yellow. Without selecting the most yellow fish, you could get any range of mostly pale colored fish.

My selection will be for deep yellow and lots of black! I find a rare, dominant yellow labidochromis with black face mask to be simply stunning!

Now THESE are gonna be stunners!!! Meet the dreamiest firemen crew around, my new Fireman's Dream Flowerhorn straight from himself! Can't wait to watch these little guys grow up and change color as they get bigger! For now they're all very scared, so their colors are muted and they're acting very shy. Once they get a little more comfy, the beautiful reds and pearls should start showing through!

I recently found out that plecos love green beans! I chose to give mine frozen green beans because either freezing or boiling vegetables breaks down the cell walls, making the food more digestible for fish. I'm still learning about fresh produce that can be fed the fish, so do your own research as well and feed your fish healthier!

(Greenish water is due to poor lighting conditions and today being water change day!)

So glad I didn't give up on this spawn! Turns out a few babies did make it, but I'm still gonna go ahead and breed the pair again once I get a normal 10 gallon tank set up. This breeding was done in a 5 gallon black storage bin (Still experimenting with different spawning tanks/bins), and it really bugged me not being able to see the nest and babies from the side view. I went ahead and kept feeding the tank anyway because the water stayed clear and looked healthy. Grow up little guys!
