Reflect on the journeys that connect us with filmmaker Richard Moreno. 🎥

As part of In Motion at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, Moreno shared Statisis, a film centered on a functional boat once used to traverse Biscayne Bay and carry the bodies of close friends of immigrants. After its final voyage, the canoe was gutted and transformed into a gathering place and shelter, where local musicians began performing intimate sets for the public.

Through this transformation, Statisis becomes a reflection on risk, migration, faith and the ways objects can take on new meaning within a community—evolving from a vessel of passage into a space for connection and collective ritual.

Moreno's work was presented during In Motion: Close to Home — Short Film Screening, curated by Sinai Rivera, Guest Curator.

Step into the extraordinary world of "Frantz Zéphirin: The Messenger," the first museum exhibition dedicated to the celebrated Haitian artist.

Through richly detailed paintings, Zéphirin weaves together history, spirituality, mythology and contemporary life, creating powerful works that invite viewers to explore Haiti's past, present and enduring cultural traditions. His vibrant imagery blurs the boundaries between the earthly and the divine, offering a deeply personal and thought-provoking perspective on identity, resilience and storytelling.

A powerful visual record of resilience, remembrance and recovery.

Opening Aug. 30, "Joel Meyerowitz: Aftermath" features 28 large-scale photographs documenting Ground Zero in the months following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. As the only photographer granted continuous artistic access to the site, Meyerowitz created an extraordinary body of work that captures the transformation of Ground Zero over nine months, preserving an important chapter in American history through the lens of art.

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale will offer free admission on Friday, Sept. 11, inviting the community to experience this moving exhibition and reflect on the courage, sacrifice and resilience it honors.

The Indigo Room" by internationally acclaimed artist Edouard Duval-Carrié, whose work is currently on view at the 61st International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, transforms an entire gallery into an immersive work of art. Rich with vibrant color, layered symbolism and powerful storytelling, the installation explores history, culture and identity while reflecting the connections between Haiti, Africa and the Caribbean.
