ZeitenLos, Beethoven Reimagined for a New Century. Hamburg.
In the 2026/27 season, the Philharmonic Concerts turn their focus to Ludwig van Beethoven, honoring the 200th anniversary of his passing in 2027. A season that invites us to dissolve the boundaries of time and encounter Beethoven anew — as energy, as emotion, as a universal language.
Under the motto “ZeitenLos”, Omer Meir Wellber weaves together all 37 movements of the nine symphonies, opening unexpected sound spaces filled with life, contrasts, inner relationships, ideas, and inspirations. A journey suspended between eternity and the present moment.
At its core stands the iconic “fate motif” of the Fifth Symphony — perhaps the most recognizable gesture in all symphonic music. Paired with movements from the Seventh and Fourth Symphonies, it creates a harmonic and rhythmic tension that reframes Beethoven beyond familiar listening habits.
The programme begins with Piotr I. Tchaikovsky’s “Fatum”, a symphonic poem shaped by destiny, and continues with Fazıl Say’s evocative piano concerto “Silence of Anatolia”, performed by the composer himself.
A season of fate, transformation, and timeless resonance.

BREGENZ FESTIVAL 80 Years of Vision on Water https://youtu.be/JVIiqSzqCu0 The Bregenz Festival, one of Europe’s most breathtaking opera celebrations, marked its spectacular 80thanniversary season with a month of music, light, and architectural wonder on Lake Constance.
At the heart of the season stood the festival’s firstever staging of Verdi’s La Traviata on the iconic floating stage, the Seebühne. Director Damiano Michieletto transported Violetta’s world into the glittering “Roaring Twenties,” infusing the production with jazzage glamour and artdeco elegance. Dominating the lake was a monumental 25meter shattered mirror, a striking symbol of Violetta’s fragile destiny and one of the most ambitious installations ever constructed for the festival.
Another highlight unfolded at the Festspielhaus with Leoš Janáček’s The Excursions of Mr. Brouček, directed by Yuval Sharon. Embracing surrealist aesthetics, Sharon followed the hapless Prague everyman through two absurd journeys — first to the Moon, then back to 15thcentury Prague. Sharp, witty, and unexpectedly timely, the production quickly became one of the season’s standout successes.
For audiences drawn to experimental theatre, the Viennabased collective M.A.R.S. delivered a sensation with YUM!. Framed as a musical performance, it invited spectators to an exquisite dinner in a world ravaged by climate catastrophe — where real food no longer exists. Through augmented reality, simple jelly transformed into black caviar and truffles, creating a provocative satire on consumer culture and the illusions of luxury. A daring fusion of opera and digital art, it left an unforgettable mark on the anniversary season.

The Festival in Salzburg was founded more than 100 years ago by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Max Reinhardt and Richard Strauss — and is a magnet today more than ever.
What makes this event so special? It offers a broader artistic programme than any other festival — opera, drama and concerts, spanning from Mozart to modern works, from classical interpretations to avant-garde experimentation, from Hofmannsthal's Jedermann to Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. Only the best artists from around the world are invited to Salzburg. Visitors can combine the enjoyment of art with vacationing — daytime excursions in the Salzkammergut, evenings with incomparable performances.
The Festival has a very special flair. Salzburg's baroque old city architecture in almost perfect condition forms a breathtaking backdrop. Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand | Liceu Opera Barcelona | On July 24th , 2026.
In 1906, Gustav Mahler described his 8th Symphony as most ambitious creation to date, in both content and form. According to his words, the symphony was revealed to him as a blazing vision. A work with a unique structure: from beginning to end, everything is sung, and human voices become essential instruments. The symphony merges two distinct texts in different languages: the medieval hymn Veni Creator Spiritus and the final scene of Goethe's Faust, which together explore a shared idea of redemption through the grace of love.
The challenge of bringing the Eighth to life surpasses that of any other symphonic work. It demands vast forces, absolute precision, and a conductor who can hold together a universe of sound.
Josep Pons, after years at the helm of the orchestra and choir of the Liceu, ends this magnificent musical chapter. Now he chooses this overwhelming Symphony of a Thousand — one of the greatest masterpieces of all time — as his farewell. It will be a moving culmination of a love story!

The BOSTON POPS 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular returns for its 52nd year — a landmark celebration on the Charles River Esplanade. Under Keith Lockhart, the Pops welcome an all star lineup: Lainey Wilson, Chance the Rapper, and Trombone Shorty.
As the Signature Event of the Commonwealth’s MA250 initiative, this year’s Independence Day program features a revolutionary themed drone show during the 1812 Overture, a dazzling fireworks display, and the world premieres of two new works — including “Song of Massachusetts,” a Boston Pops commission pairing Regie Gibson’s poem with a score by Carlos Simon.
This year for the first time ever, the fireworks will be choreographed to live music from the Boston Pops!
With performances by the Boston Children’s Chorus, a patriotic singalong, beloved ensembles, a giant LEGO American flag build, and a special appearance by statewide civics competition winners, the evening celebrates creativity, community, and the spirit of Massachusetts.

BALANCHINE. Brahms Schoenberg Quartet & Who Cares? The State Opera, Prague.
Now through November 7, 2026. George Balanchine — the visionary who reshaped ballet for the modern stage — had an unmatched gift for transforming tradition into something startlingly fresh. This rare double bill brings together two of his most dazzling creations for New York City Ballet: the Brahms Schoenberg Quartet and Who Cares?
The first marks Balanchine’s debut in pure abstraction, yet its backstory is as compelling as its choreography. Arnold Schoenberg, frustrated that Brahms’s Piano Quartet No. 1 was “always very badly played” because pianists overpowered the strings, re orchestrated the score so every voice could finally be heard. Balanchine seized on this bold symphonic version and crafted a sweeping one act ballet for 55 dancers — four movements, each with its own atmosphere, architecture, and emotional temperature.
Then comes Who Cares? — a burst of Gershwin brilliance. Fast stepping, witty, and irresistibly buoyant, it channels the glamour of 1930s New York, the elegance of Astaire and Rogers, and what critic Robert Sealy called “pure, unmitigated, uncut joy.”
Together, these works reveal Balanchine at his most inventive: Brahms reimagined through Schoenberg’s orchestral lens, and Gershwin’s songs sparkling with new life through dance. A celebration of musicality, style, and the sheer pleasure of movement.

“Either I am terribly mistaken, or The Queen of Spades really is the crowning achievement of my life’s work,” wrote Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. His penultimate opera, premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg in 1890, has remained a fixture of the world’s stages ever since — a gripping study of love, power, and psychological unraveling that still electrifies audiences today.
At the center of the drama stands Hermann, a young officer consumed by ambition. He longs for wealth, status, and entry into the glittering world of the aristocracy. But when he becomes obsessed with a legendary secret gambling formula — and with Lisa, the gentle granddaughter of an aging countess known as the “Queen of Spades” — his desires twist into a dangerous fixation.
Determined to win both Lisa’s heart and the fortune he believes will secure his future, Hermann pursues the countess’s secret at any cost. What follows is a descent into passion, jealousy, and madness, as fate tightens its grip with devastating force.
Tchaikovsky’s score is a triumph of emotional precision. From the storm laden overture to the opera’s shattering final moments, the music illuminates every facet of the story — the shimmer of high society, the shadows of obsession, and the fragile boundaries of the human mind.
