Comedia Musica Players

Comedia Musica Players Comedia Musica Players is a local musical theatre troupe in Fort Dodge, Iowa, founded in 1968.

We perform one full-length musical theatre production annually each fall. Comedia Musica Players is a local musical theatre troupe, founded in 1968 by long-time Fort Dodge Senior High choral director Larry Mitchell and Scott Griffith. The troupe has produced and performed at least one full-length broadway musical each year since. In 2006, Comedia Musica Players presented the World Premiere of Card

iff, written by local author Deann Haden-Luke and featuring the music of Karl King. They are known to give professional-quality productions of musicals of all types, from the dramatic “Man of La Mancha” and “Camelot” - to lighter fare such as “The Pajama Game”, “State Fair” and “Beauty and the Beast” - to the more operatic “Evita” and “Phantom”. The troupe’s most recent productions include “Chicago”, “Young Frankenstein: The New Mel Brooks Musical”, "Annie" and "The Addams Family". The musical performed by the troupe in the fall of 2016 will be their 49th annual production! Comedia Musica Players is a non-profit volunteer organization, bringing together and showcasing talented performers in the Fort Dodge area. Our annual budget to produce a show is over $35,000 – this includes an large fee for use of a local auditorium, royalties paid to the licensing company, set construction and scenery, costumes and publicity. Corporate sponsors and fine arts grants play an enormous part in helping our group thrive and remain a part of the Fort Dodge performing arts community. We love to welcome new troupe members and are always looking for talented people to help behind the scenes as well! Each year we seek to fill the following paid positions for our productions: Show Director, Music Director / Conductor, Choreographer, Stage Manager, and Orchestra Members. If you enjoy performing in musical theater or have a passion for costumes or set construction, we would love to meet you!

We‘re pleased to announce that our recipient of this years scholarship is Alexa McHone! Alexa has performed in many productions with us, including Mary Poppins and Elf. She also participated with FDSH musicals all throughout her high school career. She was unable to be present at our annual meeting, so her mom Holly accepted the check on her behalf. Congratulations, Alexa!

The year of 2026 will bring us many historical events, including the United States 250th year as a country and the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. In order to honor these events, our 59th production this November will be Come From Away!

Come From Away is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.

Stay tuned for audition information later this summer!
