For those of you who haven’t been there before, Range14 is on Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Lakehurst. You can reach the range without special access (but be advised to avoid any roads with signage restricting them to military personnel only). The rifle, archery, skeet, and trap ranges are for use with a FSS Rod and Gun Club membership. If you are interested the website is here: https://www.gomdl.com/ro

Again, you do not need to be a member to play airsoft. Park on the grass on the right just past the dirt road once you enter the gate. We’re going to keep it fast-paced. So read the below so you’re not caught off-guard on-field. We do things a little differently than some places. We have the opportunity to go let loose, operating on the premise that guys conduct themselves accordingly. We have two load-out zones, one in the middle of the field, so bring a bag with water, extra ammo, whatever. Short walks and short downtime, don’t get left behind. Bring your side-arm; we will run a few pistol-only matches (no drum mags, no auto) so if you don’t have one you gotta play with your hands. No pyro. Sorry, I have no say on the matter. You may hear demolitions nearby, but you gotta enlist if you want to be the one setting them off. Thunder B’s, V’s, gas, blank, etc grenades are all ok to use. All count as frags. Barrel covers are required in the parking area. It’s a live range and active military base. If you’re tossing around what looks like a real AR, other people here are going to assume it is. Muzzle discipline. Wear eye-protection at all times. If you have an eye-pro malfunction; if it cracks; if it falls off: it is on you to cover-up and call an immediate ceasefire. If it fogs up, keep your eye-pro on and stumble around until someone shoots you, then purchase a fan. Also, there’s a decent amount of cqb, I’d recommend a mask or good dental plan. Blind fire- No spraying madly around barriers or over walls. But if you know an opponent is waiting for you around a corner, you can fire two shots semi-auto without exposing yourself, before checking. You must get a visual every two shots. Shoot, don’t overshoot. We’re not trying to hurt each other more than a little. Assault and SAW/LMG weapons are allowed full auto at ranges over 20’-25’, but have a light trigger finger. Full auto isn’t to blast guys until they scream, but for targets in brush, with partial concealment/cover, moving targets, or suppression. Semi only at close ranges and it's always nice to go body/leg/arm if you have the option. Chrono limits:
Rifle/Assault/Smg/lgbtqs- 1.72J (340fps w/ .32g bbs) Full auto permitted w/ 20’ MED
LMG/SAW- ~1.9J (360fps w/ .32g bbs) 25’ MED
Must be a real SAW/LMG model, must be heavy, must promote degenerative arthritis of the spine. If it weighs 7lbs loaded, it don’t count. DMR- ~2.15J (330fps w/ .40g bbs), 50’ MED Semi-only, MUST HAVE SIDE-ARM
Must be a legit long-barrelled DMR platform, no m-4’s with a 8” can. Sniper- ~2.9J (360fps w/ .48g bbs) 80’ MED, Must have side-arm
Bolt action only, HPA bolt action, gas/co2 Bolt action
Heavy Sniper ~3.4J (390fps w/ .48g bb) 100’ MED, Must have side-arm
Bolt action springer only (manually racking/compressing spring increases duration between follow-up shot, increases ‘recoil’)
If you are afraid these energy limits are going to sting, wear extra layers or a scarf. Grenades- 20’ radius, not 10’. All types of sound or bb dispensing grenades (Thunder B’s, V’s, Tornado’s, Storm’s) etc are considered frags with the same 20’ radius, regardless of whether you get hit by a bb or not. Overhand, underhand, sidearm, don’t care how you impart movement on your grenade, so long as it doesn’t clock somebody in the head. Do not throw fastballs down CQB corridors, don’t bomb them 50’ in the air, don’t pretend this is MLB tryouts. If it’s a long open field, you can put some ass on the throw, but use sense. Again, it doesn’t matter how you throw them so long as you don’t hurt anyone. Pallets do not count as protection against grenades. Fences, tarps, plywood, and other wooden board structures without conspicuous gaps DO count as cover from grenade’s 20’ blast radius. If a grenade detonates in a tower, everyone in it is considered hit, regardless of cover.. Grenades can be lobbed over fences and barricades. But any structure with at least 3 walls over 7’ high is considered to be enclosed and have a roof, so grenades can only be tossed through windows (eventually we will have bird netting cover all ‘roofed’s structures). Ricochets are not considered hits. BB’s that pass through tarps and hit players on the other side are not considered hits (Ideally, in the future, all exterior poly tarps will be replaced with wood or other impenetrable materials, but for now, all tarps are considered hard cover)
Friendly fire counts. A bullet’s a bullet; a bb is a bb. Gun hit ‘disable’ the weapon. If your gun is hit, you must switch to a side-arm. If you don’t have one, use your hands/ rubber dummy knife, a grenade, or call yourself out. Kill flags = mandatory. Don’t leave any ambiguity as to whether or not you’re still in-game. Red or bright orange removes any ambiguity. Don’t soft call your hits; let everyone in the neighborhood know one of your buddies was nice enough to let you know you screwed up and [left your ass hanging out/ didn’t pay attention/ were too slow], by shooting you with a little plastic ball. Don’t just do a silent about-face and shuffle dejectedly away; be happy to announce that you’ve been HIT. It wasn’t a real bullet. You’re alive! Lastly, speaking of real bullets, this is an active military base. You will hear periodic or persistent gunfire and demolitions. You will not be hit by any. There are nearby live-fire ranges, impact areas are clearly marked. Stay out of those.
