Disappointed to hear that *after* having been accepted to and printed in the catalog for the 528.0 printmaking show in Denver, former Mad Deer member, Maria Hettinga just received news that she has been removed from the show 2 days prior to opening because her monotypes are not "printmaking enough". Puzzled as to why this wasn't a decision made during the jury process. Seems misleading to claim to "celebrate the expansive diversity of contemporary printmaking" if the show intends to adhere to such a strictly traditional aesthetic. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

We will be celebrating her work via social media. If you ever get the chance to see her large scale prints in person don't pass it up!

Help keep our doors open, become a member of the Downtown Artery!

The Artery is launching our membership campaign and we could really use your help and support to keep our cafe open. We think the membership has a lot of amazing benefits too like free entrance to designated shows, access to member only events, 10% off all drinks, and the feeling that you are helping to support the local arts community. It is a great deal AND you can feel good about it! There is no long term commitment either so you can sign up for a month and discontinue if your situation changes.

We view the café as an integral part of our creative ecosystem as it provides a vibrant and accessible space but, without the community’s support, we will need to take a serious look at whether to continue café operations. Our gallery, venue, art studios, overnight rooms, art lounges, etc. will continue to operate as usual, but we are asking for your support to keep our café doors open and our ecosystem alive! Mad Deer printer Kelsey Thompson will be showing in Longmont at Impasto Gallery!

To kick off and Beltane, here's my rusalka lady (again, I know 😑 but this time with better lighting!) She will be showing at Impasto Art Gallery in Longmont for their Creatures Re-Imagined show opening Friday May 5th from 6-9pm. I will be there, and if you're in the northern Colorado area I hope to see you there too! I also have some prints of her (with less saturated color, I liked the way it looked) on my Etsy if you like her pensive little face as much as I do 😢
