Blues and Swing at OTY

Hi Friends!

I've been getting a lot of questions about the future of the dance. As of right now, I have yet to find a venue that is both as nice and as cheap as OTY was. Anything I have found that is as nice or better has been far too expensive. I'm not willing to use a venue that will require me to charge $10+ for the dance to cover costs. Even doing so may not work out, as we would likely lose a good number of folks charging that much. I'm also not willing to use a venue that lacks in quality. I've seen too many dances go under because of things you wouldn't think are as important as they are (ambiance/atmosphere is just one example that comes to mind.)

For now, sit tight and hope that something will pop up. Consider also expressing some gratitude for the other awesome dances we have right now. We're really fortunate to have the scene that we do and I can tell you that it's a lot of work to organize a dance and sometimes it feels pretty thankless...so maybe next time you're out at Indigo or CSU swing or Salsa at the Rio, consider telling the organizers that you appreciate what they do.

Tonight!! No more blues and swing at OTY. The building has been sold and we're taking October off to venue shop for something new. Keep your eyes peeled here and on our website for new info when we have it!

SHOE POLICY CLARIFICATION - Because there has been a lot of confusion around this issue I will restate the current policy. The studio has a strict NO SHOE policy and as renters of the space, we must adhere to their policy if we wish to continue to rent the space. Those with medical needs can email [email protected] directly to talk about being granted an exception to the policy. "My feet hurt sometimes after dancing a lot" is NOT a medical need, so please do not ask for an exception without a valid reason.

Those who are granted exceptions will only be allowed to wear dance shoes with soft soled bottoms (suede or similar) that will not tear up the floor and must not wear their shoes outside of any dance space. We may consider coming up with a system to clearly identify those with exceptions so that the community can help enforce the policy, though we also may not do this. For now, please assume that anyone wearing dance shoes at the event has permission to do so and you do not. If you're unsure, feel free to ask the host of the event.
