Re-provisioned Fender Acoustasonic SFX ll. Original idea conceived and patented by gone but not forgotten Aspen Pittman of Groove Tubes fame and Drew Daniels of JBL, and licensed to Fender. Hardened for touring now, these are known to have reliability issues. Cleared and modified power amp overheating issues. Modified custom grounded JACKS throughout. Micro drilled push button switches. Replacement ribbon cable to the EFX. section. Fully scanned and proofed. Immediately hit the stage at 7 PM Friday night with artist Ben Allred of Kansas Dawson.

So how does it work? According to co-inventor Daniels, the process is extraordinarily simple: "The basic principle is like M-S [mid-side] miking in reverse." A stereo signal from a guitar preamp or effects loop feeds two speakers: One channel is routed through a sealed enclosure with its cone facing forward, representing the "mid" part of the signal. And like the "side" part of the M-S miking equation, the bottom speaker is mounted on a baffle (perpendicular to the top speaker) within an open-sided enclosure to generate a figure-8 dispersion, where one side is out of phase with the other.

"The SFX electronics process stereo signals into sum and difference signals," explains Daniels. The signals that started out as "left" signals are made into signals that add acoustically in the air around the cabinet, causing the SFX speaker array to steer the combined acoustical output of the two speaker elements toward the left side of the cabinet. Signals originally from the "right" are made into signals that subtract acoustically, causing the SFX speaker array to steer the acoustical output toward the right side of the cabinet.

Loop Back Response on THD and Frequency Response of the Third PRISM Dscope III Reference System installed here last week- The audio world is definitely not just about numbers, but if you have to look at things numerically, or make comparisons- Residual THD @ less than .0025% to 90 kHz, and ruler flat on frequency response to 90 kHz. There is AP gear here that goes out past 200 kHz also. ( ie Rupert). Now to get some wok done.

Always a great meet up with Geoff, where much information was exchanged. QSC K 12.2 What goes on inside?- The world of low-cost powered speaker enclosures under $1000 that are reliable is a very short list, with probably QSC and FBT from Italy at the top. After that, the reliability curve drops rapidly. Maybe the one Achilles heel of the 12.2 is the encoder which is exposed, and users have to be very careful not to bump this, because it can be sheared off. Here you'll see that repair is not for the faint of heart. In addition when the amplifier modules are apart, the fan and ventilation system have to be cleared of dust which has extensive adhesion because of cannabis resin in the air where the speakers are used. 072226. Pro Audio repair Fort Collins, Colorado, local, national, international. Line 6 Pod Go Power Switch Conversion 072326. The power switch on this unit is entirely too small, and is well known to fail. Here is what it looks like with a heavy duty retrofit switch-Also on the back of the unit, it shows that the power consumption is 2500 mA. Is it really that high ,and can you use a One Spot AC adapter which is 1700 mA, those being quite reliable?– The answer is yes-definitely- because the measured current consumption is under 700 mA.
The chassis has to be custom routed for the larger switch, but it's still very worthy.
