The idea that we can make it better, but that the rest of the world is fighting me and trying to make it worse. And it is. The music delivery system for the last 19 years [CD technology] has been far worse than the old vinyl discs. I ran a seminar at AES a few years ago. I found an LP and a CD — same material, same master tape, same mastering engineer. I put them on simultaneously and we cross faded back and forth. At the end, I said, how many like this? 150 engineers' hands went up. How many like this? And zero hands went up. It's shooting fish in a barrel. Anytime you A/B even the worst recorded, worst pressed LP and compare it to any CD, there is instantly [a difference], just like with vacuum tube mic pres.
Is it the actual physical process of vinyl? The physical construction of the grooves and the different playback mechanism?
It's wrong. My ears are still analog. In physics, you learn that any resistive device adds noise. Noise being distortion or any unwanted thing. The more conversions, the more devices, the more times it goes from analog to digital and digital to analog, you're making horrendous mistakes. There are clocking errors. There are thousands of resistive devices. It sounds terrible. And there is no question it sounds terrible. Except a whole generation has been told that it sounds great. And unfortunately, that's what the problem is. Digital technology has brought music back into the home. It should stay there.

McCormack DNA-1 Power Amp 060526F. An interesting amplifier from Steven McCormack , repaired here this week. From the review: Overall, I found the DNA-1 well-built and attractive. Component quality was excellent, with 1% metal-film resistors and Wima capacitors throughout. Looking inside the DNA-1 gave two strong impressions: the layout and ex*****on appear to be perfectly realized, with no afterthoughts or kludgy Band-Aids, and the product's emphasis is on sonic quality, not lavish cosmetics.
Sound
I was immediately taken by the sound of the DNA-1; it was warm, sweet, punchy, and eminently musical. What really caught my attention, though, was its ability to throw a palpable soundstage in which instruments became distinct entities floating in three-dimensional space. This characteristic made the playback system seem to disappear, leaving only the music

The Chapman Stick-What Goes on inside? 060326W
The Chapman Stick is an electric musical instrument devised by Emmett Chapman in the early 1970s. A member of the guitar family, the Chapman Stick usually has ten or twelve individually tuned strings and is used to play bass lines, melody lines, chords, or textures.[1] Designed as a fully polyphonic chordal instrument, it can also cover several of these musical parts simultaneously.

It's hard to convey just how really spiritual the Santana show at Red Rocks in Morrison Colorado was last night. This is a really really experienced group of world class musicians. I spent the afternoon/evening there with consummate professional in every way Kevin Madigan FOH with his Digico SD5 Quantum + L Acoustic K1/K2 rig, and looking after Benny Rietveld's new Fender Active Bass with a troublesome active EQ circuit with his guitar tech Jason + KEVIN. - Kevin was a professional for sure You just can't imagine Carlos Santana's guitar sound coming through 4 Dumble amplifiers-it is the most righteous thing. Carlos has a lot of them. If you're going to see a show, I would highly recommend going back in August – August 24 I think, and go see that act. I haven't seen Carlos since the 80s, but I'm telling you it was just amazing. He is definitely bringing the goods. If there's anyway you can get a seat in maybe the first four or five rows, the energy coming off stage directly- it's just amazing, and so is KEVIN's mix which is sitting about 97 DBA. Super Natural- 11 times Platinum-The place was packed-You wouldn't want to miss this. More details coming soon. https://santana.com/players-current-lineup/?utm_id=97758_v0_s00_e0_tv2_a1demoo3cp8af9
