Meet Poet John Calderazzo (Reading Sunday Aug. 9 at From Chicago: Classical and Gypsy Jazz with Violist Daniela Bisenius and Poet John Calderazzo John Calderazzo’s work has appeared in Audubon, Brevity, Georgia Review, Los Angeles Review, Orion, Terrain.org and elsewhere. Among his three nonfiction books is Rising Fire: Volcanoes & Our Inner Lives. He's appeared in many anthologies, including Best American Nature Writing, Best Travel Adventure Stories, and Copper Canyon Press’s Here: Poems for the Planet. In his second writing career, as a poet, he's published The Exact Weight of the Soul (Red Mountain Press, 2020) and In the Soup (Middle Creek Publishing, 2025). In the Soup, writes Dan Beachy-Quick, “ . . . reminds us that joy is an acceptable response to finding yourself in the vast trouble of the world.”
English Professor Emeritus at Colorado State University, he’s won a Best CSU Teacher Award, a Colorado Council on the Arts Fellowship and founded the nonfiction track of the CSU Creative Writing program. He also teaches scientists to use storytelling skills to communicate with the public and enjoys trekking among high mountains around the world.
