It was a JF championship day at VHSL State Film! Chris Kolb’s “Noises Off Promo” won Best Commercial in the state!! Cody ‘Iron Man’ Beck walked in from UVA hospital to take the State Audience Choice trophy for “Welcome to Merica” in the Animation category! (Cody’s film also placed 2nd in the state in Animation!) Elias Brown’s “Inapercue” placed 3rd in the state in Animation! Julie Gibbs’ “Look Up” was 5th place PSA! What an awesome day of films all around! It’s a great time to be a Cavalier Filmmaker!

On the road to the VHSL State Film Festival in Charlottesville! JF has 4 State Finalist films selected to be screened in PSA, Commercial, and Animation! We’ll enjoy great short original films from Manchester, Robinson Secondary, Tallwood, McLean, Clover Hill, and many more finalists from around the state! Gonna be a fun day no matter what! Let’s go!

Ariel Kraje '18 has choreographed 8+ shows since January: Chantilly High School's The Lightning Thief, Woodlawn's the Mystery of Edwin Drood, Walt Whitman's The Mystery of Edwin Drood, the Academy Youth Theatre's Between the Lines Jr., Saint Patrick's Catholic Middle School's Shrek Jr., Langley High School's Grease, John R. Lewis High School's Mean Girls, and Robinson Secondary's Legally Blonde! She's currently choreographing two show choir concerts and will be choreographing at Olney Theatre Center's 4-6 Grade Summer Stock Camp! She also choreographed Workhouse Arts Center's Spongebob the Musical, which is running now thru June 14th! She'll also be choreographing Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest's 1776 for the 4th year in a row! She is planning to move to NYC August 1st!

Blake McGregor '23 is working as the Light Supervisor at Arcadia University and has been working hanging and cabling lights for different theatre companies in Philadelphia! As an actor, he will appear in 3 professional shows this summer--1 in Philly and 2 in New Jersey! In June, he will appear in Head Over Heels again (this time as Musidorus!) at Plays & Players! Then, 2 children's shows: Winnie the Pooh (as Christopher Robin) and How I Became a Pirate (as Captain Braid Beard) at the Ocean City Music Pier! Blake: "Finally, another pirate!"

Today marked the return of TED KRAJE DAY at JF! Mr. Kraje (a.k.a. Teddy Spaghetti, Central Va's preeminent birthday party clown & Circus Techniques expert) taught juggling basics to six JF Theatre & Public Speaking classes! What an awesome time was had by all! Thanks Ted!!

Walker Vlahos '19 has been busy busy busy! Over the holidays, he got to perform in Frosty the Snowman at Adventure Theatre MTC for 8 weeks! In February, he was nominated for a Theatre Washington (DC) Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Performer in a Play for his performance as Jack in Not Your Mother's Goose! The awards take place May 18th! He's currently working on The Wizard of Oz at Toby's Dinner Theatre, in the Ensemble and understudying the Scarecrow, closing June 7th! In the fall/winter he will be swinging Olney Theatre Center production of Les Misérables, directed by Tony nominee Stephen Brackett, running Oct. 30th-Jan. 31st!
