David, better known to many of you as Magic Orthodoxy, created a video about The Magician’s Forum, and I was genuinely touched by it.
What meant the most to me wasn’t just that he featured the forum, but how clearly he understood and communicated the heart behind it.
When I started TMF back in 2016, I wanted to create a place where beginners could ask questions without being made to feel stupid, experienced magicians could freely share what they’ve learned, and where everyone could enjoy talking about magic without trolls, grammar police, or the unnecessary drama that you so often experience at other forums.
David captured that vision beautifully. One line in particular that really resonated with me is, “We’re really good at building audiences, but we’re really bad at building community.”
I agree. And I'll admit that I haven't done this perfectly. But I sure am trying.
David, if you're reading this, thank you for taking the time to understand what we’ve been trying to build and for sharing it so thoughtfully with your audience.
And to all of you who help make this place friendly, welcoming, and worth coming back to, thank you too.
The Magician’s Forum may never be the biggest magic community on the internet and that’s perfectly fine with me. I’d much rather that we be known as one of the friendliest.
Your friend in magic,
Rudy
