I am the collector of worn dirty parts, cleaner of worn dirt parts, designer and sales person, of worn dirty parts! I am thrilled to hand-make home goods & jewelry from used bicycle parts, for all to enjoy.
Living in a disposable society, we easily throw away broken items, discard out-of-date belongings and effortlessly toss worn objects. I’m contributing to changing these poor habits, in a small and exciting way.
Being a creative mind, I crave to give objects a clever renewal. I’ve selected bike parts to do this. The bicycle is a wonderful toy, machine and means of transportation.
I’ve been re-purposing many items for years, even dating back to my childhood in Montana. Therefore, this concept of re-purposing is deep rooted. After all, my favorite toy as a child was my imagination.
The extent of seeing items in a new light speaks to what I do professionally, instructing landscape photography with REI’s Outdoor School in Northern California. Perspective is a “creative tool” to see an object. I’m always impressed how each student see’s the same environment with a different perspective. In essence, I see worn bike parts with a unique perspective.
My history of the bicycle has been a constant from getting independence as a child, a bike commuter when I first moved to CA, to now as a recreational rider and bike touring.
In addition, my other connection to the bicycle is being a certified instructor with the League of American Bicyclists. I instruct 5th graders how to safely “drive” their bikes in traffic. It’s very rewarding empowering 10 year olds to be independent and responsible cyclists.
Yes, I wear many hats.... photography instructor, cycling teacher and designer of worn dirty parts.... a jack of all trades, the master of FUN !
