🏺 Take Your Wheel Throwing Skills to the Next Level with Hanna Traynham!

Join Floyd native and ceramic artist Hanna Traynham at the Floyd Center for the Arts for an intermediate wheel-throwing course designed to build skills, explore new techniques, and encourage creative expression!

Raised in Floyd's vibrant arts and music community, Hanna is a ceramic artist, Professor of Ceramics and Sculpture at Roanoke College, and one of the newest members of the local 16 Hands artist group. Her ceramic work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and her teaching approach focuses on helping students discover their strengths and develop their own creative voice.

🏺 Intermediate Wheel Throwing with Hanna Traynham
Wednesdays, Nov 4–Dec 16 | 6–8 PM
6 Classes | Adults | $275
(No class November 25)

Ready to move beyond the basics? Explore new techniques such as throwing off the hump, creating larger forms, altering and carving, and making lids and spouts. This course encourages experimentation and creativity while helping students develop their own unique style in clay!

Designed for students with previous wheel-throwing experience or who have completed an introductory course.

The first 25 lbs of clay are included! Additional clay is $30 per 25 lbs. Space is limited to just 7 students!

From colorful stained glass mosaics to meditative mandala drawing, join Michele Pasciullo for creative workshops this fall and winter!

Michele has been creating mosaics since 2008 and has taught hundreds of workshops. Inspired by the natural world, her work explores connections between art, nature, and Sacred Geometry.

🏺 Meet Our New Ceramics Instructor, Will Sawyer!

We are excited to welcome Will Sawyer, ceramic artist and professor at Radford University, to the Floyd Center for the Arts!

Will holds both a BFA and MFA in Ceramics from Radford University and has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. His teaching philosophy focuses on exploration, creative problem-solving, and helping students develop their skills and confidence at the pottery wheel.

This fall, Will will be teaching Ceramics: Stacking Workshop, a two-part workshop designed for intermediate potters ready to take their wheel-throwing skills to the next level!

🏺 Ceramics: Stacking Workshop with Will Sawyer

Learn to create larger, more dynamic ceramic forms by throwing individual pieces on the wheel and stacking them together. Will will guide students through techniques for properly joining thrown forms to expand the scale and possibilities of their pottery.

Choose from two workshop sessions:

Session 1: Fridays, October 23 & 30
Session 2: Fridays, November 6 & 13

6–8 PM | Adults | $80 per session
$30 materials fee + firing fees based on piece size

This workshop is designed for intermediate students with prior wheel-throwing experience. Space is limited to just 7 students per session!

🍂 A Wonderful Evening at the Floyd Center for the Arts!

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Saturday for the Opening Reception of our three new fall exhibitions! It was a wonderful evening filled with conversation, creativity, and community, and we were thrilled to welcome so many of you to the Floyd Center for the Arts.

It was especially wonderful to see our galleries filled with artists, friends, and neighbors coming together to celebrate the arts. Your continued support means so much to our exhibiting artists, staff, volunteers, and the Center.

A special thank you to all of our exhibiting artists for sharing their incredible work, to Theresa Rykaczewski for serving as our New Works 2026 juror, and to our dedicated Gallery Committee for the time, care, and hard work they put into hanging and installing these exhibitions. Gina Louthian-Stanley is a multi-media artist, encaustic painter, writer, and workshop instructor living in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. This year’s exhibition was juried by Theresa Rykaczewski, an artist, curator, educator, and museum professional who serves as Art Museum Manager and Professor of Museum Studies at Radford University.

Join us December 5 & 6, 2026, from 10 AM–5 PM for one of Floyd’s longest-running holiday traditions. For 32 years, Winterfest has brought together regional artists, craftspeople, and holiday shoppers for a festive weekend celebrating handmade art and craft.

Last year, more than 1,400 visitors attended Winterfest, making it a wonderful opportunity to get your work in front of holiday shoppers!

The Floyd Center for the Arts is proud to present Caddo Lake, an exhibition of large-scale black-and-white photography by Richmond-based photographer Pat Lawson in the Breezeway Gallery.

Along the border of East Texas and Louisiana lies Caddo Lake, an extraordinary landscape of dark water, towering cypress trees, and draping Spanish moss.
Through his photography, Lawson captures the quiet, mysterious, and almost primeval character of this remarkable place. Cypress trees rise from dark pools of water while curtains of Spanish moss create a landscape that feels haunting, beautiful, and removed from time.

Lawson’s photography focuses primarily on people and landscapes. His work seeks to capture the character and circumstances of a subject so strongly that the image invites the viewer to step into the scene.

We hope you’ll visit the Breezeway Gallery to experience Caddo Lake through Lawson’s striking black-and-white photography.

On view October 3 – November 21, 2026.
