I opened Farrell’s Frame and Design because I wanted to build something of my own. Then I became a mom, and somewhere along the way, the “why” got a whole lot bigger.
My daughter has grown up around and in a frame shop surrounded by women who run saws, cut glass, solve problems, make things with their hands, talk to customers, create beautiful work, and keep a business moving. And I LOVE that this is normal to her.
I love that she gets to see women be creative and kind AND strong and capable. That she sees her mom own the business, make hard decisions, screw things up occasionally, figure them out, win some awards, work really hard, laugh really loud, and keep going.
Farrell’s has been mine for ten years now, but it has become so much bigger than me. It supports the women who work here. It preserves pieces of families' lives. It gives artists and organizations somewhere local to bring work that matters to them. It lets us give back to our community. And it gives me the incredible privilege of building a career I love while still getting to be Finlee's mom.
I don't need Finlee to grow up and own a business; I just want her to grow up knowing that she absolutely could. That's my why.
So here's a HIGH FIVE to ten years of building, motherhood, sawdust, beautiful things, strong women, big ideas, and whatever comes next.
