Hey, I've gotten back into painting in various ways lately. And one result is this painting, "Silent Symphony". It's 24x30", painted in acrylics on canvas. It's based on photos we have from our trip to Norway about a year ago. Auroras are simply magical to see!
But the motivation for the painting was this year's Messina Hof Winery wine label art contest, the theme (A Story in the Stars) perfectly fit this painting.
Anyway, it just got juried in as a finalist. So I'll be going down to their Bryan winery for the Wine & Roses Festival on April 25th, where it will be in a peoples' choice contest. Wish me luck!

I did some acrylics painting recently. The folks at Lewisville Playhouse asked me to paint a pair of canvases (36”x48”) to go in their display windows between shows. I came up with a theater masks theme, which they liked. Here’s a photo of the result.
And Happy Holidays to all!

I have a couple of paintings being shown as part of a group of local artists, in case you'd like to see them in person. The first, Lift Your Voices, is at the Flower Mound Public Library. The other one, Don't Fence Me In, is at Flower Mound Town Hall. There's a meet-the-artist event tonight there; I will be there.

Per Flower Mound Arts:
Artist Meet-and-Greet Scheduled for Thursday, November 13 at Town Hall
The new group exhibit on display at Town Hall.
UPDATE (Nov. 10): If you haven't stopped by to see these pieces at Town Hall yet, consider joining us for an artist meet-and-greet this Thursday, Nov. 13. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall (2121 Cross Timbers Rd.), chat with the featured artists about their work and artistic process. To learn more about the art display walls located around town, visit www.flowermound.gov/artdisplay.

As we prepare for November Arts Month in Flower Mound, we’re celebrating the vibrant creative energy in our community with a group exhibit on the Town Hall Art Wall! The exhibit, titled Creative Urges, highlights the work of nine local artists including Lisa Chittenden, Beth Dilley, Steve Falkenburg, Yvonne Gambino, Chuck Hendrickson, Rebecca J. Jones, Murthy Mantha, Anita Robbins, and Steven Rodriguez.

These artists were chosen because they played a vital role in shaping the 2025 Arts Festival at Heritage Park, enriching our community’s visual landscape with colorfully painted Adirondack chairs and dynamic 4’x4’ murals. Their contributions energized the festival with creativity and captured the imagination of festivalgoers. While the pieces featured here were not part of the festival itself, they reflect the personal inspirations and artistic visions that fuel each artist’s practice.

Through Creative Urges, we come together to connect, create, and celebrate the power of art. Stop by Town Hall (2121 Cross Timbers Rd.) during regular business hours through the end of November to see these pieces in person. You can also learn more about the artists and their process for creating these pieces during a meet-and-greet on Thursday, Nov. 13 from 6-7 p.m. at Town Hall (2121 Cross Timbers Rd.). As November Arts Month approaches, keep an eye on www.flowermound.gov/art for more great events celebrating art in our community!

I suppose it's time to post again. I painted a pair of landscape watercolors for a couple at my church. They have an affinity for the Lake Powell area and gave me several photos to choose from. I finished them about two months ago. Both are 12"x16" in size. Here are the results.
The first is of the water surface reflecting the cliffs beyond. I accentuated the waves and some contrasts but otherwise left the composition alone in "Reflecting on Powell".
The other was a bigger challenge. The photo was taken directly toward the sun, casting most of the outcrop cliffs into shadows. So I decided to "move" the sun in order to cast light on the cliffs, then figure out how they should look. That resulted in "Red Rock Country".

And there’ll be a Meet The Artist event there on May 21st, 6-7:30pm. So come drop by and visit a bit.

Yesterday I managed to finish the painting I started Saturday at the Artist Pop-up at Ferguson Plaza. (And thanks to the folks who came by to visit and see what I was doing!) Here it is. I titled it "Decisions, Decisions" in honor of the butterfly with so many choices.

Well, I thought I posted about this this morning … but I managed to mess that up.
First, Flower Mound had its annual Arts Festival at Heritage Park today, 10am-4pm. I was of the 6 artists who painted Adirondack chairs for the festival. I wanted mine to be inviting and pretty realistic. And I wove a bunch of local wildlife into it, too. I worked on that chair for a good, long stretch, but am happy with it. Our two local granddaughters found it this afternoon.
I then drove from the festival to do an Artist Pop-up in Old Town Lewisville. There, I sat in front of a bed of flowers and started a watercolor painting of them. It’s probably only one-fourth done, but here’s how it looks now.
