ANNOUNCING AUDITIONS FOR THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW 🎃
The Full Moon Players are thrilled to announce auditions for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, adapted by Mary and Andrew Arnault from the beloved story by Washington Irving. Directed by Lily Holly Retherford and produced by Tonya Holly.
“On an early autumn morning, the quiet village of Sleepy Hollow eagerly awaits the arrival of its new schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane. An outsider with lofty ambitions and an unwavering belief in the supernatural, Ichabod quickly captures the attention of the village…especially that of the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel. His arrival, however, doesn't sit well with Brom Bones, the village's charismatic prankster and Katrina's longtime admirer. As the rivalry between the two men grows, so do the whispers of the legendary Headless Horseman, whose ghost is said to roam the lonely roads after dark. Filled with humor, romance, lively townsfolk, traditional music, dance, and haunting mystery, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow brings Washington Irving's beloved American classic to life. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. No prepared monologue is required. Callbacks will be announced following auditions. There are principal and supporting roles available for ages 14 and up. Younger performers are welcome to audition for featured children's roles portraying Ichabod Crane's schoolchildren. Performers of all experience levels are encouraged to audition.
Character Breakdown:
Ichabod Crane
The ambitious new schoolmaster of Sleepy Hollow. Intelligent, awkward, and endlessly fascinated by ghost stories, Ichabod dreams of winning the heart of Katrina Van Tassel while building a better life for himself.
Abraham "Brom Bones" Van Brunt
The village's fearless hometown hero. Charismatic, athletic, and known for his practical jokes, Brom is determined to win Katrina's affection while protecting his place in Sleepy Hollow.
Katrina Van Tassel
Beautiful, spirited, and charming, Katrina is the daughter of the wealthiest farmer in Sleepy Hollow. She finds herself at the center of a rivalry between Brom and Ichabod.
Baltus Van Tassel
Katrina's warm-hearted and prosperous father. A respected farmer whose hospitality makes his home the center of village celebrations.
Dame Marta Van Tassel
Katrina's gracious mother and the heart of the Van Tassel household. Elegant, kind, and welcoming.
Hans Van Ripper
A hardworking Dutch farmer, devoted father, and respected member of the community. Practical, dependable, and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Dame Hilda Van Ripper
Hans' nurturing wife and mother of Margaret and Gretchen. She keeps the Van Ripper household running with warmth and wisdom.
Grandmother
The wise elder of the community who preserves the traditions, folklore, and superstitions that make Sleepy Hollow so mysterious.

The legendary specter said to haunt the roads of Sleepy Hollow. A physically demanding role requiring commanding movement and an unforgettable stage presence.
Christian
One of Brom Bones' loyal companions. Adventurous, energetic, and always eager to join in the fun and mischief.
Nicholas
Another of Brom's close friends. Playful, quick-witted, and full of personality, helping bring the lively spirit of the village to life.
Margaret
The eldest Van Ripper daughter. Kind, responsible, and mature beyond her years.
Gretchen
Margaret's younger sister. Clever, spirited, and full of youthful curiosity and humor.
Diedrich
One of Ichabod Crane's students. Bright, enthusiastic, and eager to learn while bringing warmth and energy to the classroom scenes.
Rolf
Diedrich's younger brother. Adventurous, imaginative, and always ready to follow wherever excitement leads.
Beatrice
A cheerful schoolgirl whose playful spirit helps bring the classroom and village to life.
Featured Children's Roles
Younger performers will portray Ichabod Crane's schoolchildren, appearing throughout classroom scenes and village festivities while adding warmth and charm to the story.
Ensemble
The people of Sleepy Hollow are the heartbeat of this production. Ensemble members will portray villagers, farmers, party guests, churchgoers, festival attendees, wedding guests, travelers, and even supernatural spirits. This is a highly featured ensemble with opportunities to create memorable characters while bringing the rich, mysterious world of Sleepy Hollow to life.
