This one might be one of the most STUNNING bowls I’ve ever made- and I think it was the perfect bowl to donate to the Michigan Alliance for Environmental & Outdoor Education (MAEOE) for their annual conference silent auction.

This came from a silver maple tree in the historic Mott Park neighborhood- right next to the Mott Park recreation area which is part of the new Flint State Park and where their annual conference is being held!

When designing Mott Park, Norbert Dougherty intentionally made the focus of the design the topographic features of the land surrounding the Flint River, with the park for the families at the central point. He made preserving the mature tree canopy a vital focus in that design. The focus on families, and sustainable land development led to the interesting shape and winding features (and all the triangles) of the neighborhood perched overlooking the Flint River (and now new state park), and set an example for how to design land development to appreciate people and nature.

That canopy though- a key focus- is now (has been) aging, and this tree is now part of Mott Park’s past… but this bowl gets to live on. 🥹

I also threw in a free private wood turning lesson ☺️🤌.

I truly hope whomever gets this gem treasures it forever 🫶.

Woodturners that do and post things like fractal burning are an instant block.

Promoting such an insanely dangerous technique - but especially repeatedly after being called out for how irresponsible it is to promote such techniques online is just unhinged.

Sad to block one of my favorite creators, especially one that encouraged me as I was just tip toeing into content creation- and I’ll do it again 💯.

Stay safe in the shop y’all- too many white men cutting off their fingers as it is…

Fractal burning is extremely dangerous- the AAW has had a standing safety ban on it, as well as turning organizations around the world. It kills- with a 71% mortality rate. Safety first- it’s too easy to make mistakes, and too often noobs watch something like a video online and think it’s okay.

There is no safe way to fractal burn.

There are no safety certified Lichtenberg generators.

It doesn’t matter if you have someone with you- the death is usually instant.

It’s extremely irresponsible to be posting videos on the internet for clout when this could end your life, and / or the life of a follower/noob inspired by you -there is nothing cool about that.

You want cool burn lines on a bowl? Buy and learn how to use a wood burner.
