I recently finished this glass mosaic. It was inspired by the book "King Sorrow" by Joe Hill.
While I was reading the novel, the image of the dragon took hold of my imagination. Once I was finished, I couldn't wait to get out a pencil and start sketching. I originally planned to design a piece featuring the entire dragon, but then decided that I could get more impact from a close-up view.
The gorgeous Youghiogheny glass that I had on hand ended was just what I needed to realize my vision. Sometimes the materials dictate the work. And sometimes the materials and the work are just a natural fit.
Once in a while a piece almost births itself -- this was one of them!
