AMERICAN GIRL - TOM PETTY - COVER - KEN TAMPLIN - KEN TAMPLIN VOCAL ACADEMY

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' AMERICAN GIRL - a song that they recorded on the 4th of July in 1976, the 200th anniversary of the USA.

This is my cover of a great Tom Petty song, AMERICAN GIRL.

Like Mom and Apple Pie, songs like this inspire feelings that we can all share about growing up and living in the USA.

I hope you enjoy this song as much as I enjoyed performing it.

STEELHEART - SHES GONE - COVER - KEN TAMPLIN - KEN TAMPLIN VOCAL ACADEMY

SHE'S GONE is an amazing Steelheart song from 1990. Lead Vocalist Milijenko Matijevic showed the world what could be done vocally with an arena Rock ballad.

If you want to test the mettle of any Rock singer, ask them to perform "SHE'S GONE" by Steelheart. It's a real test of vocal range, strength, and power.

Milijenko Matijevic showed us that he had what it takes to blow the roof off of any venue.

Being the kind of guy who likes to take on any vocal challenge, I am presenting my own cover of this epic song. Did someone say "Epic"? My friends from the Epoch House Choir are backing me up on this cover, as well.

If you are an aspiring singer, then you might find this cover inspiring. Before I learned how to sing, I never could have dreamed of taking on a song like this.

After learning the methods and techniques of how to really sing, I found myself able to take on pretty much any song I would like to try.

So with that in mind, here is my cover of Steelheart's "SHE'S GONE".

ALL OUT OF LOVE - COVER - AIR SUPPLY - KEN TAMPLIN - KEN TAMPLIN VOCAL ACADEMY

Truth be told, I grew up as a Rocker. And Rockers were not allowed to like ballads like "All Out Of Love." It was frowned upon by my Rocker peers. (It was almost as bad as admitting that you liked disco, ha ha!)

But to be honest, I secretly really like these kinds of songs.

I'm not sure if it's because it was the love songs they played during "Couples Only" at the skating rink where you got to skate dance with your dream girl and it was your only chance to do so, or if I just liked them because they are truly great. But whatever the case, I really liked them! (kind of funny, I loved groups like the Bee Gees as well which were also taboo for Rockers and later we find guys like Dave Grohl covering entire albums of material like this, ha ha!).
But greatness withstands the test of time regardless.

I was left with a problem though. Growing up, guitar was my first instrument and because I only started dabbling in vocals at about the age of 19, I found myself realizing that this song was way out of my range and I'd better stick to low range Rocker stuff.

But after learning an incredible amount of technique and information about the voice, I realized it just wasn't true. I was able to sing songs like this. And more‼️
It didn't come easy, it didn't come overnight, but it did come with correct information and correct practice.

So I thought I would share this story with you along with this song in hopes that it inspires you on your singing journey. 🙂
