Join us on Wednesday, April 22 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Center for Native American and Indigenous Futures (CNAIF) for “Let’s Set Up a Tipi and Share Our Stories” with CNAIF Elder Ron Lee. Elder Lee will guide participants through the traditional process of erecting a tipi, sharing the cultural teachings and responsibilities embedded within its structure. As students work together to raise the tipi, they will engage in meaningful dialogue about home, protection, kinship, and the values that shape Indigenous ways of living.

This event is part of the CNAIF Elders Program, which brings respected Indigenous Elders to campus to share knowledge, teachings, and lived experience with students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. The program emphasizes intergenerational learning and creates meaningful opportunities to engage with Indigenous ways of knowing through hands-on and relational experiences. Through workshops like this, the Elders Program strengthens cultural connection, supports holistic learning, and fosters a sense of belonging and community at CNAIF.

Please join us for Dr. Kendall Grady, Navajo Technical University Assistant Professor of English, presentation "Coloring the White Cube: What Classrooms Can Learn from Galleries" on 4/17 at 12 pm at the CNAIF and via Zoom. Lunch Provided.

Abstract: The visual art gallery and university classroom are both microcosms of society. As such, these sites constitute potential catalysts for social change as well as reification chambers for power formations. What lessons, then, might culturally responsive educators transfer from the art world into the academic system, and why should they want to? Braiding photo essay, auto-ethnography, performance lecture, and interactive discussion, this presentation will rally the contributions of Indigenous and Black artists, theorists, activists, and pedagogues united in interrogating the politics of recognition.
