NightVisions: AMBER Preview!⁠

We are putting the final touches on this exhibition, and it is coming together harmoniously. We are eager for you to experience NightVisions: AMBER at the Opening Reception this Saturday, complete with live music, refreshments, and a narrowband amber lighting effect.⁠

CCA Members get the first look (and chance to purchase!) during the Members’ Preview from 5–6 pm. This will be followed by a Jurors Talk at 6pm, Public Reception from 6–8 pm, and Telescopes & Stargazing at Dusk.

NightVisions: AMBER is presented in partnership with the Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition. Join us in celebrating Flagstaff’s deep connection to the night sky!

On July 9 from 8–10 p.m., come to CCA for Indigenous Ties to Dark Skies: Arabic Poetry in the High Country. 🌟⁠

Join cultural astronomer and Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition executive director Dr. Danielle Adams for an evening exploring the rich heritage of indigenous Arabian astronomy through poetry and storytelling. Presented during the exhibition NightVisions: AMBER, this special evening program invites audiences to experience the transition from twilight to darkness while reflecting on humanity’s enduring relationship with the night.⁠

This special exhibition celebrates the 25th anniversary of Flagstaff's recognition as the world's first International Dark Sky City. Expanding upon the established NightVisions: Cultural Interpretations of the Night Sky concept, this exhibition explores the theme of amber lighting and highlights the critical role that amber-spectrum lighting plays in Flagstaff's dark-sky conservation efforts.⁠

New Concert Announcement: Nathan McEuen!
Friday, August 28, 7:30 PM

Nathan McEuen grew up surrounded by incredible music and talented musicians. By age five, he was already performing with his father, John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and soon became a natural showman.

With more than 40 years of touring, over 3,000 performances, and appearances on American Idol, Stagecoach Festival, the Grand Ole Opry, The Tonight Show, Music City Roots, and SiriusXM Radio, his music has reached audiences around the world.

Meet the jurors! Renowned artists Paula Jean Rice (slide 1), Janet Yazzie (slide 2), and Stan Honda (slide 3) selected the works for NightVisions: AMBER opening Saturday, June 27.

Paula Jean Rice is a Flagstaff-based artist and previous CCA exhibiting artist. She is a nationally renowned ceramic sculptor and educator whose interests include the nature and mystery of the human body and our place in the cosmos.⁠

Janet Yazzie is a Flagstaff and Diné Nation based painter. She uses vibrant colors to depict the Navajo landscape and the animals she grew up around. From dark skies and her family's sheep to the iconic windmills across the Nation, she has mastered the art of portraying the vibrant world through colorful, creative paintings.⁠

Stan Honda is a New York-based photographer who has worked as a photojournalist for 34 years. He covers a wide range of topics, including news events, politics, economics, sports, human-interest stories, and night-sky landscapes.⁠

The 60+ works selected by these jurors will be featured in NightVisions: AMBER, on display from June 27–September 26. Don't miss the opening reception on June 27 from 5–8 pm, with the jurors' talk taking place at 6 pm.⁠

NightVisions: AMBER is an international juried art exhibition that seeks to explore and celebrate our deep connections with the night.

This special exhibition celebrates the 25th anniversary of Flagstaff's recognition as the world's first International Dark Sky City. Expanding upon the established NightVisions: Cultural Interpretations of the Night Sky concept, this exhibition explores the theme of amber lighting and highlights the critical role that amber-spectrum lighting plays in Flagstaff's dark-sky conservation efforts.
