Our Mission

The Mission of the Fitchburg Art Museum is to inspire creativity and learning, and to contribute to the well-being of our diverse communities in Fitchburg, North Central Massachusetts, and New England. To accomplish this mission, we organize exhibitions of the work of New England contemporary artists and artworks from our art historical collections, offer programs for learners of all ages, support public art projects, invite community participation and partnerships, and stimulate the local creative economy – all in the spirit of inclusivity.

Join us on Saturday, October 3, from 2 – 4 PM, to celebrate the opening of “Elisa H. Hamilton: Heirlooms” and enjoy the exhibition with fellow visitors. Light refreshments and appetizers will be served, with wine and beer available for purchase. Free and open to all. RSVPs preferred by Wednesday, September 30.

Join us on September 12 from 2–3 PM for a free artist-led conversation exploring how food, family, migration, and cultural memory shape Claudio Eshun's photographic practice. Drawing from his artwork on display in “The 90th Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft” and “Call and Response: Kindred,” Eshun will discuss how everyday acts of care: cooking, feeding, gathering, and remembering, can become powerful forms of cultural preservation and resistance. The program will incorporate a food sampling with Chef Moriah to continue the dialogue between photography and food as two ways of preserving memory.

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming exhibition, “Elisa H. Hamilton: Heirlooms,” opening September 26, 2026. “Heirlooms” features vibrant works on paper that draw from a handcrafted quilt made by the artist’s great-grandmother. Embracing joyful color and dynamic geometric patterns, Hamilton embodies family stories using bold, contemporary abstractions. Join us this fall to experience this celebration of memory, family, and creativity.
