I haven’t thrown a teapot in ages!

They’re a design challenge that I’m usually too impatient to tackle, if we’re being honest. How to shape a body, lid, spout and handle, and put them together looking like they belong with each other, not a Frankenstein mishmash?

Although now that I mention it, a Frankenstein mishmash of a teapot sounds right up my alley…

I have a lot of decisions ahead of me.

Sometime I know exactly how the pieces I make will be glazed. More often I have no idea! It’s best, I think, to have a loose vision anyway since it’s an unpredictable process. A combo that slayed in the last firing might come out just meh the next time.

Kiln gods are finicky.

So, I shepherd this tableful of bisque ware towards their destiny- a hot encounter with tricky chemistry, that may or may not end with dazzling results.

I am in love with the cosmic colors on this mug! I use this combination a lot but it hit extra right on this one. Of course, it ran like crazy which is why I still have it, but I will be making more like this.

This irregular plate was once a bowl I picked up carelessly as it was about to go into the bisque firing. A big chunk broke right off in my hand. 😱

It was bone dry and there was no chance of repairing it, so I broke it some more, taking off the sides and salvaging the bottom. ⚒

I threw the rest of it into the reclaim bucket and this part survived to tell the tale. It went home with someone at my last show as a gift for her daughter to hold her crystals. 💜
