Welcome to the “Listening to Door County Artists” series of panel conversations! On Tuesday evenings during the months of May and June, you are invited to sit with and listen to almost fifty of Door County’s resident artists. These very enlightening conversations are focused on the artists, giving each an opportunity to talk about their practice and for our community to listen. Each event will focus on artists in specific mediums: musicians, visual artists, actors, writers, film makers and women visual artists.

We hope you will join us and learn about some of the artists who have planted seeds and established roots in our Door County artistic community.

Our panel conversation celebrates the following insightful Door County Women Visual Artists! We look forward in you joining us.

The women visual artists’ panel conversation will be moderated by Elizabeth Meissner-Gigstead, with 20 years of arts management, Beth, is the passionate Executive Director of the Miller Art Museum.

The accomplished panel members are: Lynn Gilchrist, a painter who loves to find extra colors in nature and to examine the inner lives of beings, both animate and inanimate; Angela Lensch, a 3 dimensional fine artist, creating woven metals jewelry, kinetic sculptures, and mixed media mosaics, she is owner of Angela Lensch Gallery; Pam Murphy, lives on a ten acre farm, and when not in the studio painting, spends time caring for her chickens, ducks, geese, dairy goats, and vegetable gardens; Renee Schwaller, is a potter and owner of a 1900 barn and granary which she has restored and is home to her Off the Wheel Pottery gallery; Mary Ellen Sisulak, whose life journey has been rich and varied is a painter working in different mediums to express her inspiration, owner of Turtle Ridge Gallery; and Stephanie Trenchard, loves to swim in process – through casting, painting or writing – exploring gender, motherhood or creativity, co-owner of Popelka Trenchard Glass.

The filmmakers’ panel conversation will be moderated by Alan Kopischke, Assistant Professor, Department of Theatre & Dance, UW-Green Bay and Producer of the Door Kinetic Arts Festival. The accomplished panel members are: Aaron Fischer, filmmaker and co-owner of multi-media production company, Piranha North Studio; Brett Kosmider, documentary filmmaker, co-owner of Peninsula Filmworks and recent documentarian of Ridge and Swale; Kurt Krauss, independent film director/producer, recent credits include, The Last Rung on the Ladder and From the Furnace; Craig Newman, Producer, Slatestone Media and worked in visual effects and animation on major film productions for Disney, Dreamworks and others; Chris Opper, filmmaker, minigolf enthusiast and Director for the Door County Short Film Festival and Kevin Wehrenberg, current owner/operator of Stone Hedge Golf and Pub and was an Executive Producer for many hit pop culture television shows: Fear Factor, Slip N’ Slip and others.

A Zine Making Workshop with Bronwyn Mauldin

Join us on Monday, June 10th for an exciting hands-on Zine Making Workshop led by Bronwyn Mauldin. Zines are hand-made publications where you can share your thoughts and ideas through text, images, and collage. Bronwyn will walk you through a simple four-step process to make a zine inspired by your reflections of "Are We Listening?". You'll walk away with a very special zine that you can keep for yourself or share with friends and family. No prior art skills required and all materials are provided for free.

Bronwyn Mauldin is a writer and zine-maker based in Los Angeles who is leading a seminar at Bjorklunden in June titled "Democracy Book Club." Her short fiction has been published by Akashic Books, CutBank, Gold Man Review, Tusculum Review, Hemingway Shorts (prize finalist) and several editions of the Dada anthology Maintenant. Zines in her Democracy Series are available in bookstores and libraries across the US and in a time capsule. She has been a writer in residence at Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado, Denali National Park in Alaska, and Kulturni Centar REX in Belgrade, Serbia. More at bronwynmauldin.com.

Please join visual artist Rebecca Carlton at in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on Thursday, August 10th at 5:30 pm. The "Conversation Around the Easel" will focus on the art work of three women artists from the Miller's permanent collection. Carlton invites those in attendance to engage in a lively conversation about how we look at art and how we determine what we like.
