“Water Finds a Way”

While in Fujairah, I had just finished painting up the road when Suhail (my host) asked if I wanted to stop and take a few photos before the light faded. We pulled into this strange little town, and he dropped me off for about 30 minutes while I wandered around looking for something to catch my eye.

I didn’t see a single person or car the entire time. Eventually I came across this quiet mosque, where an AC unit was dripping water onto a shrubby tree below, a small detail, but a powerful reminder of how precious water is in this part of the world. I was also lucky enough to experience rare rain during my time abroad, which is why I left the puddle in the painting. Something you might not normally see...

“Veiled Cosmic Jelly”.

Much of my more personal work contains lots of symbolism and totems I have adopted along the way. “The Cosmic Jelly” is one of the first. I like to put them outside of their environment (floating in the air instead of underwater. They are meant to represent the questions we don’t have answers to.

We will be having a really fun art show at the gallery. Art 5-7 music by “Identical Homes” 7-8. Both my kids will be showing work and my wife will have some food laid out. I will be putting out a flyer on here soon! June 20,

“Fujairah, Acacia Valley”

This is my first bigger piece based off of a small plein air I did while in the UAE (last slide)! Super fun to paint and I was fortunate enough to have visited during an unseasonal rain pattern that fortunately added some green to an otherwise dry (though beautiful) landscape.

So excited to be offering painting classes again. We plan a wide range of lessons so stay tuned!

One of my favorite spots on earth. I spend a ton of time here. It’s a place that has changed so much over the last 20 years and thinking back, I find it hard to believe that it used to be so different. But the great thing is this place always has a way of making erosion and change look good. I know I may be partial, but when the California sun starts to get low in the summer, the beauty keeps on giving.

‘The Crow and the Cat”

This is my first painting from my short trip to Istanbul a few weeks ago. Seems like a lifetime for some reason. I was fortunate enough to spend a few days in this incredible city. I took a ton of great pictures to paint from and plan on painting from them.

As I am sure many of you know, the place is absolutely riddled with cats and the Hooded Crow. I learned about the relationship these two animals have. Some have alliances and share the food that is provided to the cats by the people who live there, and of course some are enemy’s and are at odds with each other.

It’s a perfect example of the different realities going on right under our noses. This whole world going on between these two species that if you didn’t think about it, you may not know it exists. I imagine all the different storylines going on between them.

Looking forward to painting more from this short stay in this incredible city.
