DBL POLL QUESTION ❤️

I had an interesting conversation recently with a marketing expert, and they gave me advice I honestly wasn't expecting.

They told me I should think about changing my business name.

Why?

Because when people hear "Death By Lipstick," many automatically think lipstick, makeup, beauty...

Not music.

Not music production.

Not artist development.

Not helping creatives build careers.

And I get it.

Even though my logo literally has music notes and a music staff built into it... I still wonder sometimes if people miss what we really do.

But then another part of me thinks...

Is it really the name?

Or is it awareness?

Because the truth is... millions of people still have no clue who Death By Lipstick is yet. 😅

We're building.

Growing.

Learning.

Adjusting.

So I genuinely want your honest feedback.

❤️ Keep Death By Lipstick exactly how it is

🎵 Keep Death By Lipstick but make it much more clear that we are music production, artist development, and helping artists build careers

🔄 Change the name completely

I’ve been thinking a lot lately.

Death By Lipstick started back in 2012.

Some days it feels like yesterday. Some days it feels like ten lifetimes ago.

Back then I had big dreams. Bigger than what I knew how to do at the time.

I just knew I loved music.

I loved helping people.

I loved seeing artists believe in themselves again.

I believed if I kept showing up, kept learning, kept building… somehow I’d create something that mattered.

Over the years Death By Lipstick became a lot of things.

Music production.

Artist development.

Marketing.

Social media.

Websites.

Film projects I’m honestly so grateful and blessed to be part of.

Meeting incredible people.

Watching dreams unfold.

Being trusted with people’s stories.

Helping people build something they believe in.

That part will always mean something to me.

But what people don’t always see…

are the years trying to do everything myself because I couldn’t afford help.

Late nights staring at a screen trying to figure out one more thing.

Learning things I never thought I’d need to know.

Building websites.

Studying marketing.

Trying to understand social media.

Creating content.

Answering emails.

Taking calls.

Trying to keep growing.

Trying to keep learning.

Trying to keep moving.

There were seasons I honestly believed if I just worked harder…

everything would happen faster.

If I made more money.

Did more.

Produced more.

Posted more.

Learned more.

Pushed harder.

Maybe then I’d feel like I was doing enough.

Maybe then I’d finally get there.

And music…

Music has a way of making those feelings louder sometimes.

Streams.

Growth.

Algorithms.

Comparison.

Watching people announce wins while quietly wondering if you should somehow be further ahead.

Feeling like if you slowed down everything would stop growing.

Feeling guilty resting.

Feeling guilty sitting still.

Feeling guilty if you took a minute for yourself.

Meanwhile quietly carrying stress while trying to help everybody else build their dreams.

The thing nobody tells you…

is you can love what you do with your whole heart…

and still get tired.

You can be grateful…

and overwhelmed.

Blessed…

and carrying heavy things.

Both can exist at the same time.

Somewhere along the way something shifted for me.

Not overnight.

Little by little.

I stopped believing rest meant falling behind.

I started understanding peace mattered too.

Boundaries mattered.

Stepping outside mattered.

Nature mattered.

Laughing more mattered.

Protecting my energy mattered.

I started understanding my value wasn’t tied to how much money I made.

How much content I posted.

How productive I was.

Or how much I accomplished in one day.

My worth was already there.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

And I think especially in music… and honestly business too… we need to talk about this more.

The pressure.

The comparison.

The quiet weight people carry while trying to build something they care deeply about.

Maybe somebody needed to hear this tonight.

Going into this next week…

If you’re feeling stuck.

Overwhelmed.

Like your dream feels heavier than it used to.

If any of this feels familiar… here’s what helped me.

1. Take one next step. Not twenty. One.

Sometimes we overwhelm ourselves looking at everything left to do instead of focusing on the next thing in front of us.

2. Stop waiting until it’s perfect.

Perfect keeps people stuck longer than failure ever will.

3. Protect your energy like it’s part of your business plan.

Because it is.

You can’t build something beautiful while constantly running yourself empty.

Keep building.

Keep believing.

Keep learning.

Keep growing.

But don’t lose yourself chasing the thing you’re building.

The dream matters.

But so do you.

❤️
What’s something you wish more people talked about when it comes to building dreams?

Finding Your Audience — Being Everywhere vs Actually Connecting

You don’t need more people.
You need the right people.

Now let’s be real for a second…

Yes—right now, it is necessary to be everywhere.

Different platforms. Different spaces. Different opportunities.

Because visibility matters.

People can’t connect with you if they don’t see you.

That part is true.

But here’s where a lot of artists get stuck…

Being everywhere… and actually connecting
are two completely different things.

A lot of artists are showing up across platforms,
posting consistently, doing everything they’ve been told to do…

and still feeling like nothing is sticking.

Still feeling overlooked.
Still feeling like they’re missing something.

And it’s frustrating, because you are putting in the work.

But visibility only gets you seen.

Connection is what makes people stay.

When you’re focused on being everywhere,
you’re trying to reach more people.

When you’re focused on connecting,
you’re speaking directly to the people who are already meant to hear you.

That’s the shift most people miss.

Because connection doesn’t come from volume.

It comes from clarity.

Clarity in who you’re speaking to.
Clarity in what they feel.
Clarity in how your music fits into their life.

When someone hears your music or sees your content and feels like
“this is for me”…

that’s when things change.

You’re no longer just another artist they came across.

You become someone they remember.

Someone they follow.

Someone they support.

And that’s how you build something real.

So yes—be visible.

Show up.

Put your work out there.

But don’t lose the reason you’re doing it.

Because being everywhere will get you attention…

but connecting with the right people
is what builds your foundation.

And that’s what lasts.

If your ideal fan heard your song today…
would they feel like it was made for them?

04/26/2026

YOU’RE NOT STUCK. YOU’RE UNFOCUSED.

You’re not stuck.

You’ve been trying to build something
without real direction.

Posting… hoping… guessing…
and wondering why it’s not clicking.

That’s not a talent issue.
That’s a clarity issue.

When you get clear on:
who you are
what you’re building
and how it actually makes money…

everything shifts.

You stop spinning.
You start moving with purpose.

No more throwing content out and hoping it lands.
No more second guessing every move.

Clarity changes how you show up.
Clarity changes how you move.
Clarity changes what comes back to you.

I had a moment the other day that stayed with me.

I was talking to an artist… and before they even said anything, I could feel it on them. That quiet frustration.

They looked at me and said,
“I’m doing everything… radio, TikTok, posting… and I still don’t know what’s actually working.”

And I didn’t answer right away.

Because I’ve heard that before.
I’ve felt that too at times.

Trying to do all the “right” things…
but nothing really feeling solid.

So I asked them something simple.

“What do you think radio is supposed to do for you?”

They said,
“Get me heard… help me grow.”

And I nodded.

Because that part is true.

Radio can get you heard.
It can open doors.
It can make people look at you different.

But then I told them…

“You don’t control it.”

You don’t control when they play you.
You don’t control how long they play you.
And you definitely don’t control when they stop.

And I could see it hit them a little.

Then I asked about TikTok and Instagram.

“What do you think that’s doing for you?”

They said,
“It’s helping people find me.”

And again… true.

You can post.
Show up.
Build something on your own terms.

But then I said…

“You don’t really control that either.”

Because the algorithm decides who sees you.
One post works… the next one doesn’t.
People come in… but they don’t always stay.

And that’s when I said it in a way that shifted everything.

“You’re building your career on things you don’t control.”

We sat there for a second.

Not in a bad way… just letting it sink in.

Because nobody really explains it like that.

So I asked them one more question.

“When people find you… what do you actually own from that?”

And they didn’t have an answer.

Not because they weren’t smart.
Not because they weren’t trying.

Just because nobody had ever broken it down that way.

And that’s the part I want you to hear.

Radio isn’t the problem.
TikTok isn’t the problem.

It’s relying on them like they’re the whole plan.

Because if there’s no next step…
no way for people to stay connected to you…
no way for them to support you…

then it doesn’t matter where they came from.

It’s just another moment.

I could see it click for them.

Not overwhelming… just clearer.

Like… “okay… now I see what’s missing.”

So if you’ve been feeling like you’re doing everything and it’s still not coming together…

you’re not doing it wrong.

You’ve just been trying to build something without seeing what needs to be yours.

Start there.

Ask yourself…
what do I actually control in this?

Once you answer that…

everything starts to move different.

I see you.

Happy Saturday!! Thank you for listening 💋

Let me ask you something…

Do you feel like people are actually connecting to you…
or are you hoping the music is doing all the work?

Because those are two very different things.

A lot of artists believe if the song is good enough,
it’ll speak for itself.

And yes… music matters. It always will.

But in today’s space?

Connection is what carries it.

People don’t just stay because of what they hear…
they stay because of how you make them feel.

And if you’re not clear on who you are,
what you stand for,
or how you show up…

you’re leaving that connection up to chance.

That’s why you can have great content, great music…
and still feel like nothing is sticking.

Because content gets seen.
But branding is what makes people feel something about you.

Here’s where to start:

What emotion do people feel when they land on your page?
Can they describe you without mentioning your music?
Do they connect to you… or just consume your content?

If you don’t know yet, that’s okay.

But this is where the shift happens.

You don’t need to be louder.
You need to be clearer.

Because when people feel you…

they don’t just scroll past.

They stay.

Be honest… do people connect to you…
or are you relying on the music to carry everything?

my own energy is my medicine

This kind of energy is everything to me, and here’s why… ✨

When I say “my own energy is my medicine,” I mean:
It’s what helps me get back up when life hits hard.
It’s what I bring into my family, my friendships, my business, my art.
It’s what decides if I’m moving from fear… or from faith and confidence.
When my energy is right, I think clearer.
I create better.
I choose better people.
I hear my own intuition louder.
This isn’t about being “perfect” or positive 24/7.
It’s about taking responsibility for the vibe I’m walking into the room with…
and knowing that how I feel on the inside will show up in everything I touch on the outside.
That’s why this energy matters so much.
It’s not just a mood — it’s the foundation for the life I’m building. 💋✨
