What Happens After Your Song Drops?

Sometimes the post she thought would work doesn’t. The random studio clip connects. One lyric gets quoted. Someone you’ve never seen before start showing up in your comments. Pay attention to those moments. Your audience will often show you what they connect to before you fully understand why. The smartest next move isn’t always creating more. Sometimes it’s noticing what’s already working – and building from there. What surprised you most after your last release? musicmarketing

Everybody can be on the same song and still have very different rights attached to it. That’s where things get interesting. Know what your piece is💋

Celebrating release day the best way we know how—laughing, creating, making things happen and enjoying this beautiful friendship. ❤️ We may be artist and music producer, but what we share goes so much deeper.
Lexi, I’m so proud of the woman, songwriter and artist you are becoming. This is your moment—step into it, Queen! 👑 “Proud To Be A Woman” by Lexi Jones is OUT NOW! Turn it up and celebrate who you are with us! 🎶🔥

IMO- Lexi isn’t just trying to put songs out. She’s becoming a stronger writer with a real point of view, and I’ve watched that grow in her.
Proud To Be A Woman is one piece of that.
It’s confident, yes — but underneath that confidence is something more personal: learning your worth, owning who you are, and being proud of the woman you’ve become even when that journey hasn’t been perfect.
That’s what I want people to understand before they hear this song Friday.
Not just who Lexi is as a singer.
Who she is becoming as a songwriter.
And I’m curious — when you discover a new artist, what makes you want to stay and learn more about them?

Big news for Death By Lipstick Productions. 💋🎶

DBL is officially partnering with Symphonic Distribution.

Yes, this is an exciting step for us—but the bigger reason I’m sharing it is because independent artists deserve more than just a place to upload music.

They deserve:

stronger distribution
better access to playlist pitching
clearer reporting
better royalty tools
more opportunities to build awareness
more support around the business side of their music

That’s what matters to me.

For the artists I work with, this partnership gives us stronger infrastructure behind the work we’re already doing. It gives us more ways to release strategically, track what’s happening, protect the music, and position songs for growth.

And if you’re an independent artist reading this, here’s the part I want you to take with you:

Don’t just ask, “How do I release my song?”

Ask:
“What system do I have around the song once it’s released?”

Distribution is only one piece.

The bigger picture is ownership, metadata, publishing, marketing, audience growth, royalty collection, playlist strategy, and making sure your music has somewhere to go after release day.

That’s the kind of foundation I’m continuing to build at DBL—for my artists and for the artists who come after them.

Clear direction. Real momentum. 💋

A lot of people see the announcement.
They don't always see the meetings.
The questions.
The research.
The late nights.
The risks.
The decisions that happen behind the scenes.
Today, I'm celebrating a new partnership with Symphonic Distribution, but this didn't happen overnight.
It happened because I kept showing up.
Kept learning.
Kept asking questions.
Kept looking for ways to create more opportunities for the artists I serve.
That's what building looks like.
Not every meeting leads to a deal.
Not every conversation opens a door.
But sometimes one meeting, one conversation, or one opportunity can change the direction of where you're headed.
I'm grateful for this next step.
And even more excited about what it means for the future of Death By Lipstick and the artists we work with.
Keep showing up.
You never know which meeting is going to change everything.
❤️

I’ll tell you what made me stop on this one.

The deeper I get into publishing, the more I realize how many artists are creating real assets every day without thinking of them that way.

We make the song. We release it. We move on to the next thing.

But now AI is changing the conversation around music, ownership, identity, and permission — and suddenly the boring stuff isn’t so boring anymore.

Spotify is introducing labels for AI-generated artist identities.

Round Hill is suing Anthropic and Suno over alleged unauthorized AI training.

And both stories made me think about the same question:

If somebody challenged your ownership tomorrow, could you prove what’s yours?

Not just say it.

Prove it.

Who wrote the song?
Who owns the composition?
Who owns the master?
What were the splits?
Who contributed?
What did everyone agree to?
Where is it registered?
Who has permission to license or use it?

I think that’s the part artists need to pay attention to.

Because as AI gets deeper into music, the human side of the work needs better documentation too.

I’m learning this in real time as I go deeper into publishing and catalog organization.

And the more I learn, the more I believe this:

Your song isn’t just content. It’s intellectual property.

You don’t have to be afraid of AI.

But you do need to understand the business around what you create.

Could you prove who owns your last song today? If not, save this post and start with your splits, registrations, and ownership records.
