Hello, friends! Just popping in to post a little sneak peek of what I've been working on for the last few months. I have been busy painting and piecing together a large scale tile mural for a pet resource facility here in NWA! These photos only show a fraction of the project/process and the overall look will change a lot once it's put together, but I've really enjoyed watching these illustrations come to life.
The phase you're seeing here is the unfired underglaze, so it's a bit brighter and more uniform than the actual mural will appear. After I've done this part, I give them a solid coat of clear glaze and send them through the kiln. (Huge thanks to the folks at for working with me to get these fired! 🙏🏻) I've struggled tremendously with these tiles in the process dealing with warping, cracking, and discoloration issues, but the end result is sure to be undeniably handmade and fun to look at as it was meant to be!
I'm also nearly 32 weeks pregnant, so I've been incredibly tired and emotional throughout this endeavor, but to see it coming together has been very rewarding. So far I've hand painted and corrected over 300 tiles for this project. It likely won't be installed until Spring, but I haven't posted in a while and just wanted to make sure y'all know I'm still a ceramicist out here making stuff. 😅
I can't wait to see it put together and I hope you'll go see it when it's done! Location TBA upon completion. In the meantime, our baby Fin will be here mid-March and I'm looking forward to being a new mom again, healing, adjusting, and getting back to pottery with fresh ideas and renewed inspiration this Summer.
